straight wins
r Wingham Tykes
The Wingham Tyke hardball
teem Baine through wi , two wins
inn row last week, defeating the
two opposing teams they will face
in the play-offs. So the omens look
good.
The Friday s ' ght game was
played in Chesley and Wingham
took the lead in the first inning
with a run, followed by a run in
every inning after. The leading
hitters for Wingham were Ken
Deichert with four, Bill Brophy
with three, and Robbie Strong,
Joe Tiffin, Daryl Holmes, John
Haines and Tom Foulon with one
each. Excellent base running and
hitting contributed to the 13-11
score.
The second game was played
Saturday in Wingham with Clin-
ton as the opposition. It was a
close game until the sixth inning \
when Wingham came through
with eight runs on some well -
played base stealing, hitting and
just all-around good playing. The
final score was 16-9 for Wingham,
and if you consider that Clinton
beat Walkerton 24-6 in a previous
game and Walkerton is said to be
the top team in eight team sched-
ules, it speaks well for Wingham.
A very strong pitching game
was turned in by Joe Tiffin, who
struck out 12 'mento register his
second win in two days. Runs
were scored pretty well by every
member of the team which con-
sisted of Tom Foulon, Bill
Brophy, Robbie Strong, Ken
Deichert, Joe Tiffin, Daryl
Holmes, John Haines, Jeff
Moore, Dave Montgomery, Mike
Foxton and Kevin Saxton.
Jeff Moore deserves a little
extra praise for a beautiful slide
in home with a run right under
the catcher's mitt. And a special
mention too for Mike Foxton for
his extra effort to get the runner
on first on a throw from centre
field.

ROPE JUMPING was one event in which the girls had an
edge on the boys. Robert•Ortlieb, a grade eight student at
Sacred Heart, discovered this sad fact when he tried his
hand at. the art. The day's events were shared by both
Sacred Heart and Wingham Public School students.

AUBURN
r.
Imagine impatiens plants with
blooms as wide as three inches
and a large range of foliage and
flower colors!
The New Guinea series ofim-
patiens, which has these charac-
teristics, is now, available. Al-
though supplies are limited this
year, these plants should be plen-
tiful in 1976. -
"Researchers from the U.S.
Department of Agriculture and
Longwood Gardens in Pensyl-
vania discovered these impatiens
several years ago, while in New
Guinea to collect native plants,"
Ontario Ministry of Agriculture
and Food horticulturist J. K.
Hughes said. "Breeding and de-
velopment have improved them
to the marketable stage."
While the common types if im-
patiens require shaded conditions
to 'do well, the New Guinea types
do best in full sun.
