Barry Passmore, trained the choir, is shown on the right. 75th anniversary marked by Clifford Women's Institute CLIFFORD — Thirty guests from Women Institute branches in the district joined with the members of Clifford branch on the occasion of the 75th anni- versary of the organization, the third oldest W.I. branch in On- tario. The occasion was marked by a dinner meeting in the com- munity hall, with .the Baden Powell Auxiliary serving. The tables were beautifully decorated in the Institute colors of blue and gold. Guest speaker, Mrs. Clarence Diamond, was introduced by Mrs. Evelyn Van Hoorn. Mrs. Di- amond is a life member, has held many offices, and is federated representative of Subdivision No. 10. Mrs. Diamond presented the challenge of the next 75 years to the Institute. She urged members to uphold the aims of the Institute to encourage citizenship, human relationships and to help ease' world misery. The keys are in- volvement and sharing. In a world of transition, W.I. Mrs. Darroch presented an in- teresting account of the history of Clifford branch, organized by Mrs. John R. Scott in 1899, till to- day. At first it was named Union branch and the Institute colors of royal blue and gold were chosen to honor Guelph. At present there are 25 members and one life member. Mrs. Harold Wallace, pro- vincial board member, brought personal greetings. Moorefield branch thanked the Clifford W.I. for the invitation to join in the festive occasion. Mrs. Hazel MacPhail closed the evening by thanking all those who helped in many ways to make the celebration so enjoy- able. members must respond to tech- nological changes with a green light os, .for example, the need of families in the third world who can be helped through ACWW. Mrs. Diamond presented a further challenge for the future as being: the .up -dating of objec- tives to meet the changing needs of our. communities, and the per- ception' of those needs; con- tinuing educational and cultural development; the return to a sense of human values. Mrs. Dianiond closed with the thought that the basis for the spread of W.I. to international strength has rested on self - education and concern for home and the members in it. Mrs. Mona Cook thanked and presented Mrs. Diamond with a gift. , { The Wingham Pro -Life Group will participate next week in a district "Walk for Life" in Goder- ich. A meeting for information purposes will be held June 16 at the Lucknow Town Hall. The Walk-a-Thon itself will take place Saturday, June 21, with the Vic- toria Street United Church -in Goderich as the starting point. Wingham and area residents wishing to participate in the event are asked to contact the local group members for in- formation. The Wingham group will leave for Goderich from the Wingham Ball Park at 7 a.m. Saturday morning. Several local Pro -Lifers have already com- mitted themselves to the 10 -mile hike. Adrian Keet, president of the Wingham Pro -Life group, says he will make the walk in wooden shoes, all 10 miles long. A f ternoon unit sees. historical church film The afternoon unit of the Wing - ham United Church Women met in the Sunday School Rooms June 3, 2:30 p.m., with 37 members present. The theme of the meet- ing was "Love is Kind": Mrs. John Wray and Mrs. Alvin Orvis were iq charge of the wor- ship. Rev. K. B. Passmore show- ed the film 'strip, "Heritage to the Future". It was a, sentimental trip through the first 50 years of the United Church of Canada, showing scenes of the founding churches, scenes of the immigra- tion of settlers to the west, de- pression scenes, scenes from the war years, and on to the present times. Wellington Unit offers fluoride The Wellington County Health Unit has completed arrange- ments to provide fluoride brush- ing of children's teeth three days next week.
