most as reallistically as the
ones growing, in the garden.
Such a picture bouquet
begins by cutting out blos-
soms from thin construction
or no fade paper squares. Use
pieces four by four and three
by three inches. 'Fold each
square in half, then once
again for fourths.
The next step is to cut a
petal shape on the outside.
Then, fold this in half and, be-
ginning a quarter inch from
the edge, cut a similar inside
petal shape. When the paper
is opened flat again, the ef-
fect will be a lattice-like one
of a pretty, delicate flower,
such as shown in the accom-
panying illustration. Make
several flowers, each the
same or as different as de-
sired.
Pipe cleaners make both
sturdy and flezible stems.
Poke a hole through the mid-
dle of the flower as well as a
circle of contrasting colored
paper cut half an inch in
diameter. This round, used as
a washer, .not only serves as
the blossoms center when
glued into place, but it also
sets off the pipe cleaner end ,
to. look like the flower's
stamen.
Hide the bottom of the pipe
cleaners behind paper leaves
which are glued loosely to the
background paper. This, • in
turn, should be a piece of con-
trasting colored paper which
has been glued over a piece of
heavy cardboard or tagboard
which is the same size. Since
the pipe cleaners are out of
sight, they can be stapled to
the tagboard to insure they
will remain securely and
firmly in ,place.
Filially, for a framed ef-
fect, use another colored
piece of construction paper,
12 by 15 inches. If the back-
ground piece is 9x 12 inches,
this allows an inch and a half
border on all four sides.
Grease the corners to the
center and then, using a ruler
as a wedge, bend all the aides
inwards. The results are a
shadow-box type of frame
that will further add to the
`3-D effect of the bobbing
blooms.
Once hung on a Wall, this
three-dimensional paper
flower picture will prove so
delicate, the slightest touch
will set the blossoms in
motion. -

PREPARING CREPES—Nancy Denmark, who now has a cooking school in La Jolla,
Calif., was the first woman to serve an apprenticeship at the famous Hotel Vieux Moulin
at Megeve, France. Here, she is preparing the hotel's crepe specialty.
COOKING CORNER
Woman tells French
hotel crepe specialty
By SUSAN DELIGHT
Nancy Denmark, the first
woman to serve an appren-
ticeship at the famous Hotel
Vieux Moulin at Megeve,
France, says it was not easy.
"All the others in the kitch-
ens were men. They resented
me — tried to make it as hard
for me as possible. That is,
everyone except the head
chef. He really was quite
fair," she says.
"The hours were long. I
sometimes worked 14 hours a-
day. ' ... I'm glad I did it,
though. I broke a path for
other women. When I left I
told my patron — he owns the
hotel and restaurant — I
hoped he would give . other
women a chance for the ap-
prenticeship training. And I
heard later thatte did."
Denmark said . that her
•training included all phases
of food preparation.
"But I spent the" most time
in training for sauce and
pastry making," she said.
Prior to going to France,
Denmark had her own cater-
ing service for six years in
Coronado, Calif.
"After returning to Coro-
nado I resumed the catering
service for awhile, but`ave it
up to start a cooking school in
La Jolla," she says. "I'm
really enjoying the cooking
school, I teach both classic
and -provincial French cook-
ing."
A favorite recipe, which
Denmark demonstrates in
her classes, is a ' specialty of
the Vieux Moulin.

Erobleni forcibly to the atten-
tion of the women of the
United States and the world.
Cancer of the breast is the
commonest cancer in women.

own breasts frequently, every
month about a week after a
menstrual _period. Before a
menstrual period they are of-
ten normally swollen and
tender from the action of your
hormones. Afterwards they
recede and are easier to feel.
If you have stopped having
menstrual periods, your
breasts will be soft and you
should still examine them
once a month. Become famil-
iar with the kind of breast tis-
sue you have. As time passes,
if you think there are changes,
if you feel a lump, or note
tenderness, see your doctor,
or clinic, and ask to be ex-
amined.
Your doctor, or the nurse,
will show you how to check
your breasts and the Cancer
Society puts out pamphlets.
Follow these suggestions, but
don't get bound up in a com-
plicated routine. The impor-
tant thing is just to feel them
regularly.
Cancer of the breast tends
to spread rapidly and your
best hope is to catch it early.
There aren't enough doctors
to examine every woman and
attempts are being made to
trach nurses and other para-
medical personnel to help and
to spread the message.
There have been 27 demon-
stration clinics ( paid for by
the National Cancer Institute
and the American Cancer So-
ciety) set up across the coun-
try where women are
screened free of charge. One
of these clinics reported re-
cently that, out of 5,000 wom-
en, 97 had tumors which were
biopsied (pieces removed and
examined under the micro-
scope by -a pathologist) and, of
these, 36 turned out to be
malignant.
Many women excuse them-
selves by saying, "I always
forget ! " You can tie your self-
examination to something you
do regularly, like taking a
shower or bath, when you
start your birth control pills,
each month, a specific date
each month, a mark on the
calendar.
A help in diagnosis is X-ray
mammography and the new
Xerox visualization that looks
like a builder's blueprint rath-
er than an X-ray and shows up
abnormalities well.
The treatment by surgery is
far less mutilating than it
used to be, particularly when
a lesion is caught early. Radi-
ation therapy has also im-
proved and a judicious com-
bination of these two is yield-
ing much better results cos-
metically and psychologically
than before.
Don't, however, become ob-
sessed with palpating your
breasts and worrying about
them all the time. Treat the
procedure as simple preven-
tive medicine. Use it and for-
get about it between times.
The cold facts
To brew a good pot of cof-
fee, start with fresh coffee
and fresh cold water — the
cold water seta the coffee
maker's thermostat.
And never boll coffee --
boiled means spoiled.
Place dry ingredients in
large mixing bowl and mix
with whisk. Add eggs and
yolks. Stir with a whisk while
adding milk to make a thin
batter the consistency of light
cream. Add cream, brandy,
, Grand Marnier and Kirsch.
Add melted butter slowly to
batter while stirring with
whisk. Let batter stand for at
least two hours. Add about
three tablespoons crepe bat-
ter to the hot crepe pan. Tip
skillet and coat with batter.
Cook about one minute, then
turn with spatula. Cook sec-
ond side about 30 seconds and
then place on plate to coOl.
Makes about20' crepes.

Make a syrup with two cups

crepe. Place crepes on a
platter and pour syrup over

oven about 15 minutes. Serve
