HOLDING COURT 'ERP' is the key to good overhead By ED COLLINS The overhead smash is the average "hackers" first op- portunity to take out all his frustrations and kill the ball. It's usually the only oppor-. tunity in the game to hit di- relct1y down into the court. Most people blow it! They don't "erp" soon enough. What? They simply don't get -the racquet pre- THE OVERHEAD pared to hit 'the ball. Maybe someone has told them that the overhead motion is like the service. So when the lob goes up they start imitating their service toss: "Down to- gether ... up together." By the time they get the racquet on their shoulder the ball has bounced off their forehead. Early racquet preparation (erp) is the key to success on the overhead. Don't waste time getting the racquet into the "cocked position." Pre- tend you're an archer and you are reaching for an arrow in the quiver. Reach straight back over your shoulder. Now turn sideways and get your free hand up in the air to fol- low the flight of the ball. Ac- tually point at the ball. Use your hand as a point of refer- ence. Skip step behind and un- der the ball. Now reach up as high as you can and crunch it. Keep your chin up and don't forget to use your wrist as you crack it away for a winner. You missed again? Don't worry, the overhead is usually the last shot developed in ten- nis. Keep practicing! ore subject to change 12:00 Movie 'A Storm in Sum- mer' 13 Movie `What Did You Do in The War, Daddy?' 11 1:15 Movie 'Wild Is The Wind' 8 1:30 Concern 13 2:15 Mery Griffin 11 SAT., MAY 24 5:53 Concern 13 6:00 University of the Air 13 Frightenstein 11 6:30 Sports Roundup 13 7:00 Waterville Gang 13 Special Place 11 7:30 Story Theatre 13 8:00 Family Finder 13 Ontario Schools 11 La Boite a Surprise 8 8:30 Uncle Bobby 13 D'Iberville 8 9:00 Polka Dot Door 8 9:30 Tree House 13 Frightenstein 8 La Boite a Surprise 10 10:00 Circle Square 13 D'Iberville 10 Garner Ted Armstrong 11 10:30 Hudson Brothers 13 Circle Square 8 Nutt'' and Bolts 10 Camera on Canada 11 11:00 Circle Square 10 Jr. Talent Hour 8 Cartoons 13 The Church Today 11 11:30 Bewitched 10 Jane Gray 11 Kung Fu 13 12:00 Reach for the Top 10 • Wrestling 8 12:30 Wrestling 10 Movie The Far Out.
