from June 20 to mid-September,
but Sergeant George will also be
gone for the Victoria Day holiday
to head ,the detachment of 40-100
OPP officers delegated to police
the area on the first big holiday
weekend. This will be the second
year that he has been in charge of
policing Sauble Beach. In his ab-
sence, Corporal Roe Croskill will
be in charge of the Wingham
OPP.

NX receives award for radio show
The presentation of a ''Com-
missioner's Citation” is no com-
mon occurrence, and the presen-
tation of two such citations in one
day is extraordinary. It was ap-
propriate, therefore, that the pre-
liminaries to such an event he to
the accompaniment of a whirling
helicopter, the splendor of police
uniforms and the flash of lights.
Wingham was the scene of just
this sort of production Tuesday
when a helicopter neatly landed
just south of Hanna Bridge on
Josephine St. to unload OPP

OPP dignitaries were than trans-
porte' to town for the presen-
tation by the commissioner of ci-
tations to CKNX Radio and to
Gordon L. Rimmer of Seaforth.
The Wingham radio station was
awarded the citation "in recog-
nition of assistance rendered to
the OPP for their efforts in ex-
tending to the listening audience
the radio pro ram 'The OPP Re-
plies'." The aard was presented
to radio manager John Lang -
ridge; with CKNX general mana-
ger Ross Hamilton and announc-
ers Dave (''urzon and Jim Swan
also on hand to receive congratu-
lations. The show has been heard
for over seven years and deals
with questions from the public on
the function of the OPP and the
traffic laws.
Commissioner Graham also
presented a citation to Gordon L.
Rimmer of Seaforth in recog-
nition of a rescue performed by
Mr. Rimmer last Christmas Eve.
According to the OPP report, Mr.
Rimmer rescued a driver who
had been involved in a car acci-
dent on Highway 401. "Upon my
arrival at this accident," the in-
vestigating OPP officer reported.

pulling a party from one of the in-
volved vehicles which was
smouldering at the time. Mr.
Rimmer had dragged this party
approximately 20 feet from the
car when it exploded in flames."
"Mr. Rimmer took thi§ action
without any thoughts for his per-
sonal safety," the report contin-
ued: "Had he not reacted ... as
quickly as he did, she (the driver)
would have burned to -death in her
car." The driver had been in-
jured in thC' collision and could
not get out by herself.
Also present at the stirring
event were Mayor Jack Reavie,
Sergeant L. B. George, head of
the Wingham detachment of the
OPP, and Town Police Robert F.
Wittig.
