You Are The Detective "I don't know myself exactly how much cash there was in the safe. I put $2,500 into the safe earlier this morning, and there already was a bundle of money in there." Martin King, the weal- thy attorney pauses to pass a handkerchief over his brow. "Now it's all gone. After closing the safe, I went out to post a couple of letters and buy a news- pkrper . . . I was gone no more than fifteen minutes . . . when I returned, I don't know what made me look into the safe again, but I did . . . the ,money, all of it, held disappeared! And most distressing of all, the three per- sons I have always trusted imr plidtly and the only ones besides myself who know the com- bination of the safe were all in the house this morning! They are my niece, Anne King; my sec- retary, Priscilla Andrews, and Ted Johnson, my adopted son." You proceed to interrogate each of the three suspects im- mediately and jot down the fol- lowing notes during these in- terviews: PRISCILLA ANDREWS: mousy -looking spinster of about 40; very nervous and fidgetty; says she was in thekitchenbrew- ing coffee in preparation of her employer's 'return and knew nothing of the cash to the safe; rest acts Mr. King too much ever even to think of wronging him; says she hasn't operated the safe for at least two weeks. ANNE KING: pretty blonde; a chain smoker; well-known member of the nightclub set; very cool and detached in manner; expresses regret over her uncle's loss, but remarks that 'five grand' is a 'mere drop in the bucket' to him; says she didn't leave her bedroom upstairs this morning until summoned for this interrogation; says the last time she opened the safe was a month ago when her uncle phoned from the officetoinquire about some papers he had left in the safe. TED JOHNSON: Gay young blade with an over -the forehead hairstyle; heavy gambler with no job at present and never has stayed with one for more than a couple of months at a'time; says he was in the garage all morning making some engine adjust- ments or. his sportcar; sorry about the stolen money, but shrugs it off as 'the insurance company's worry'; claims he can't even remember the com- bination of the safe, but thinks he has it written down 'some- where or other.' You now proceed to study the aforegoing notes you havetaken on these three persons. Can you determine from these who your prime suspect should be?
