AS USUAL the homes in Lower Town were hit by the high water in the spring of 1948. The
flood was said to be the second worst in the history of the town.
THESE BUILDINGS stood on the lot now occupied blithe Riverview Drive -In, the larger
structure being a cider mill when this picture was taken in 1948. The small home was
wrecked by high water and ice.

THE PUC PUMPHOUSE near the Howsom dam was all but swept away by high water
and ice in the 1948 flood.
ROARING WATERS and debris cut through thWroadway at each end of the Howson dam
in the record flood which occurred in the spring of 1948.
TWO BUILDINGS which have since been demolished were surrounded by water in the
1948 flood. The Creamery stood on the southeast corner of Josephine and Victoria Streets
and beside it (centre) was Jack Reavie's service station and garage.

Molly Cox, Norman Spent and
Jerry Collins provided the old
time music for the dancing and
sing -song.
Members of the Gorrie and
Wroxeter Women's Institute
were hosts for the April birthday
party. ?In. Alex Grab? go we,
emcee for the program which in-
cluded piano and violin duets by
Ethel McMichael and Florence
Dickison, reading by Wilma
Clegg and a sing -a -long led by the
Institute members. Twenty-nine,
residents having April birthdays
received gifts. The eldest cele-
brant was Mrs. Mosack, 99, and
the youngest Margaret Kehn,
who thanked the ladies on behalf
of the residents.
"The Calvinettes", an. organ-
ization of 36 teenage girls and
their councellors from the Chris-
tian Reformed Church, provided
a variety program for "Family
Night". The program consisted of
several musical numbers by the
group, skits and dances. Councel-
tors for the girls are Dianne and
Joanne Verhoef, Francis Jonge-
jan, Sandy Maaskant, Hilda Gil-
ders, Nellie Dykstra and Chris
Bylsma. Miss Bertha Deihl ex-

TIP TOP "TAILORS
LAKELET -- Eight girls at-
tended the meeting of the Tip Top
Tailors and, as roll call, gave
their suggestions for Achieve-
ment Day exhibits or demonstra-
tions. The meeting was held at,
the bottle of Mrs. Lorne Mann on
Wednesday of last week.
After some discussion, the
members decided their Achieve-
ment Day exhibit would be "A
Color Scheme for a Wardrobe".
Grain and staystitching were
discussed by Mrs. Behrns and
Mrs. Mann and staystitching was•
demonstrated by the two leaders.
Assembling blouses for fitting
was demonstrated by Mrs.
Behrns.
The next meeting will be held
at the home of Mrs. Behrns on
May 7 at seven o'clock.
