Hi, I'm Helen Girly-Girly, alias Japna Gowdy of Room 16. I starred in the fashion show. Let me introduce you to a few of ray guests. First of all, Ken Noble in a beautifully fitted and shaped bikini. `Russ Jilhings is wearing a striped top to go with his plain mini -skirt. Kim Sanburn is in his shower cap and housecoat. Quite elegant, don't you think? These ate just a few of the many beauties. I hope you enjoyed this insight into our fashion show as presented at our recent Easter Assembly. —Donna Forler School Film . On May 2 the students of 'Howick Central School will be walking into the gym to watch a Walt Disney film called "Nicky, the Wonder Dog of the North". This is a real treat for us and we hope this film will be as good' as the last ones. —Gary Douglas Storms. During the month of March and April huge piles of white stuff came from the sky; 55 centi- metres to be exact. This put the students in a good mood because they closed down the schools in this area. Some of the drifts were 31/2 metres high. This storm was a little out of season. —Ben Schuitema Holidays Again On April 30 in Howick area there is a Professional Develop- ment Day planned for the teachers, and a holiday for the pupils. On this day the teachers will share ideas and discuss educational concerns and prob- lems. Students will have a whole day to catch up on homework, writing lines, or just lying around. —Ben Schuitem.a Peter Pan Pirates, Indians, crocodiles, and a tailess, noisy dog were parts of the strange menagerie in the 31 person play, Peter Pan, put into production by Jeannette Strong and Karen Fitch. For- tunately not one of the 31 people in Room 14 was left out of the Pre - Easter assembly. The thun- derous applause proved that Peter Pan was a smash success. The 1974-75 school year has put out some of the best assemblies yet. This proves some of the act- ing ability of the Howick Central students. So come one, come all, to the next assembly at Howick. —Michael Disley Gerb11s Mrs. Kirkby brought in two gerbils for Room 14 after the. Easter Holiday. Their names are Bonnie and Clyde. A gerbil is a furry mouse -like minature kangaroo rat. They live Around. four years and the female can give birth to four young per month. In four years this rate would equal ,kw.o192 ^y . They . are very ,gentle and like. being petted. When we were away from school because of the storm M. Kirkby said they were worrying about them because the gerbils ' had no emergency rations. Mr. Robertson came to school through the snow drifts Friday, April 4 to feed them, - . They roll up into balls when they sleep and are. fed Hartz pellets, also they are given seeds for treats. Gerbils are desert ani- mals and need little water. I was .. - watching them sleep and they breath rapidly. If you ever come to our school be sure to go to Room 14 to see them. —Marlin Good • INDIANS AND MAPLE Although the exact details . of the origin of the Canadian maple industry are not recorded, it is known that early explorers found Indians drawing sap from the maple tree by cutting into it and then boiling the sap down to make sugar. ilSTl NCTIVEt WEDDING INVITATIONS sckt. our v cddIn.' in\ from t'ur complete _•tt,tlt,,.tie 1 Or \o+tt' .t hcer, tkc Lor of \outr In\ 11.)ti(tn to luxuriott.gold ,P7 l .071 .oil, w'EhV4' i V4, WINGHAM ADVANCE -TIMES 4
