Next Tuesday is D -Day for
those Hollywood stars who are
banking all their hopes on a little
golden boy named 'Oscar and
dreaming of him occupying a
place of honor in their trophy
rooms. It is Academy Award
time a a1iYand though theeevent°
certainly does not generate the
interest and excitement }.t once
did, we all are anxious to see
whether or not our favorites will
take the awards and go on to
greater glory.
Nominations for best actress in
last year's, 'movies have gone to
Faye Dunaway for "Chinatown" ;

"Lenny"; Diahann Carroll for
her role as a black woman living
on welfare and trying to keep her
family together in "Claudine";
and Ellen Burstyn for "Alice
Doesn't Live Here Anymore".
Miss Burstyn has been nominat-
ed several times before and I was
sure she would take it last year
for her work. in "The Exorcist'
(She lost to Glenda Jackson) so
it's surely her turn this year. She
is such a talented performer.
For best actor, the fight will be
among Albert Finney *for "Mur-
der on the Orient Express"; Al
Pacino for "The Godfather Part
II"; Dustin Hoffman for his title
role in "Lenny" on the life of
comedian Lenny Bruce; Jack

the few dramatic roles he has had
in 'movies, Astaire is thea senti-
mental favorite among the men.

To "part FROM" means to go

nounced as "heed," not as "head."

Enjoy that
bouquet ionger
Many women enjoy receiving
the gift of a .bouquet of flowers,.
but unfortunately cut flowers
don't last very long. Ontario
Ministry of Agriculture and Food
horticulturist J: K. Hughes has
some useful tips to help you pro*'
long the life of your bouquet..
"As soon as it arrives, cut one
to two inches off each stem and
place the flowers in warm.
water," lie advises. To supply the
blooms with necessary food, and
prevent blockages of the tissues
that conduct nutrients' up the
stems, asp a preservative to the
water. This will also control bac*
terial growth in the water and, is
some cases, help to dbvelop
unopened a buds. Preservatives
are available at most florists and
garden centres.
Mr, Hughes says the flowers
need daily attention. Y`'"To pro-
mote the flow, of water up the.
stems, cut the bottom off each
stem every. morning. At the same
time,iemoty.the firmer eontai ler,,'
clean it to remove oacteria, and
refill it with fresh water to which
preservative has been added."
Keep your bouquet as cool as
possible, away from fireplaces
and direct sunlight.
