Report from Queen's Park
Last week in the Legislature, right anti -pollution measures be -
the provincial environment min- fore a project is allowed and a
ilsterttabled a bill Introducing the
long-awaited •iegislatiod+ requir-
ing environmenta1)asses9ment of
the impact of major construction
projects.
The bill will require comp-
anies; municipalities and govern-
ment ministries or agencies to
prepare such an assessment be-
fore projeets are approved, and
the Environment Ministry will
then either approve the project,
suggest changes or refer the mat-
ter to an environmental board for
public hearings. This ,legislation
will' initially apply only to
government projects, but after
"a couple of hearings" will. apply
to municipalities and private
companies. The Minister indicat-
ed that it is not the intention at
this time to pay . expenses for
those appearing before the board,
and told .the House that the
government, not the board, must
have the final decision on which
projects go ahead and what pollu-
tion control measures are requir-
edp This legislation will disband
the eight -member environmental
hearing board and substitute a
new environmental assessment
board with at least. five members
appointed by the government.

William A. Stewart, the Min-
ister of Agriculture and Food, an-
nounced that the Milk Commis-
sion of Ontario will hold a public
inquiry into certain aspects of the
milk industry, in view of the sev-
eral price increases in recent
months:
The Minister indicated that
consumers in Ontario, as well as
those individuals connected with
the milk industry, have a right to
know how certain elements in the
milk chain, from the cost of pro-
ducing, processing and market-
ing fluid milk products, trade
practices, price spreads,
management policies and meth-
ods of financing, contribute to the
final price paid for a quart of
milk.
Mr. Stewart said the Milk Com-
mission has upheld the recent
price increases to the producer,
but iscaconcerned about what hap-
pens to milk prices once the milk
has left the farm.
The public inquiry,will begin.as
soon as the necessary arrange -

If Green Foxtail isyour problem,
EkkO®;ShOUId be'your herbicide.
Annual grasses, particularly Green
Foxtail, are the reasons you need
Ekko in a corn -after -corn operation.
Ekko is a safe, economical,
one -package herbicide that saves you
work while controlling broadleaf
tweeds and grasses.
Ekko offers the;sarne flexibility of
application times you've been
accustomed to'with AAtrex: pre -plant
incorporated, pre -emergence and
post -emergence in an oil -water
emulsion.
And Ekko is safe to corn and is
effective right up to the three -leaf
stage of grasses.
Ekko was designed to give
season -long control of grasses in
continuous corn operations, so only
corn can be planted the year follow-
ing application.
A suggested method of controlling
grasses is to plan on two years
of corn. Use Ekko the first year and
AAtrex®, combined with a Short -
residual grass herbicide, the second
year. Then, your field will be ready
forr a change of crop in the third year.
Ekko:The convenient, easy -to
use, one -package corn herbicide
that prevents grass build-up and
gives you clean fields right up to
harvest
