St. Patrick's
program features
Irish music
WROXETER — Irish music, in
the form of a- piano duet by Mr.
and Mrs. Arthur Gibson, high-
lighted the meeting of the Wrox-
eter Social Citizens' Society, held
St. Patrick's night. Rev. Harry
Jennings conducted a musical
contest. Prizes fdx those having
the birthday closest to St.
Patrick's Day, went to Mrs. Roy
Sanderson and Reg Watson.
Nineteen attended the meeting.
A short business period was
chaired by the president, Mrs.
Harvey Coupland, who reported
that Gordon Gibson is a patient in
Listowel Memorial Hospital and
William Wade has returned home
from the Wingham and District
Hospital. Mr. Jennings thanked
the group for cards received
while in hospital. "
"Mrs:' McGee announced that
the next craft classes will be
March 24 and every second week
after that.
Euchre was played and lunch
was served by the committee,
Mr. 'and Mrs. Lloyd McGee- and
Mrs. Margaret Adams.
The next euchre party will be
held .March 31 at 8:30 with Mrs.

euchre winners
WHITECHURCH — Eight'
tables were in play when the Cur-
rie's School euchre ,party was
held Friday evening at the Bel -
grave Arena.
Mrs. Congram and John L.
Currie received the prizes for
highest scores. Low scores were
held by Mrs. Alex Robertson and
Howard Walker. Draw prizes
were won by Mrs:. Leonard
James and Lawrence Taylor.
Those sponsoring the party`
were Mr. and Mrs. Roy Pattison
and Mr. and Mrs. Keith Weber
who served lunch.
The next euchre party will be
held in two weeks with Mr. and
Mrs, Howard Walker and Mr. and
Mrs. Galbraith in charge.

Calvin -Brick' UCW Easter meet
WHITECHURCH — The ladies
of the Calvin -Brick United
Church Women held their March
meeting on the afternoon of the
19th at the home of Mrs. Alex
Robertson. It was the Easter
meeting.
The president, Mrs. Roy Daw-
son, presided for the business
portion of the meeting. The
minutes of the last meeting were
read and approved. Current busi-
ness was discussed.
Mrs. Peter Chandler opened
the worship service with some
thoughts , on spring _which had
been written by her daughter.
The call t worship was taken
from "Th Moral Spectrum".
The hymn, "When I Survey the
Wondrou .Cross", was sung.

hosts meeting
of Gorrie WI
GORRIE — Mrs. Morley John-
son was hostess on Wednesday
evening, March 19 for the March
meeting of the Women's Insti-
tute.
Following a ° short business
meeting, the program conveners
for Citizenship and World Affairs,
Mrs. Morley Johnson and Mrs.
Glenn Johnston, took charge of
the meeting.
Mrs. Johnston introduced the
guest speaker, Mrs. Stanley
Bride of Fordwich, who gave a
very interesting and informative
talk on International Women's
Year and the United Nations and
the involvement of the Women's
Institute in both.
Mrs. Johnston presented a
token gift to Mrs. Bride and
thanked her for coming.
The Gorrie Institute held the
short course, "Baked in a Pie",
on March 6 in the Gorrie Com-
munity Hall, with Mrs. Alvin
Grainger and Mrs. Morley John-
son as demonstrators.
The hostess was assisted in
serving lunch by Mrs. Hartwell
Strong and Mrs. Robert
Elschner.
Mrs. Chandler read the first part
of the Easter . story as told in the
Gospels according to St. Mat-
thew, St. Mark, St. Luke- and St.
John pertaining to the crucifix-
ion.
Mrs. Roy Dawson led in prayer
followed by the second part of the
Easter story about the resurrec-
tion, read by Mrs. Ken Mason.
The hymn, "Jesus Christ Is Risen
Today",, was sung. Mrs. Ronald
Jamieson gave the Easter medi-
tation.
Mrs. Alex Robertson showed
slides of her trip to the Holy Land
concerning Easter and explained
the slides and the stations of the
Cross together with their signifi-
cance.
The offering was received by
Mrs. Chandler and dedicated by
Mrs. Jamieson.
Mrs. Jamieson gave the
benediction which took the form
of lighting the new Easter candle,
together with appropriate
dialogue.
Lord of creation
is theme of WMS
BELMORE — Mrs. Ralph
Dickson led a discussion on "The
Lord of Creation" when the Knox
Presbyterian Women's
Missionary Society held its
March meeting on Wednesday of
last week. She read scripture
from the first chapter of Paul's
letter to the Colossians.
Seven attended the meeting.
Mrs. Douglas McPherson de-
livered a scripture meditation
and Mrs. Arnold Jeffrey led in
prayer.

—Mrs. George Fisher ac-
companied Mr. and Mrs. Eldon
Lowry of Pine River to Mount
Forest, Sunday where they
visited the latter's daughter,
Mrs. Elmer MacKenzie and Mr.
MacKenzie. They also attended
the Easter service at St. Paul's
Lutheran Church, Ayton, and
visited with Mr. and Mrs. Gordon
Fisher and family.

their 65th anniversary; to Clinton
WI April 9 at 12:30 p.m, cele-
brating their 70th anniversary; to
the 4-H Achievement Day, June
14 in F. E. Madill Secondary
School, Wingham.
An executive meeting to plan
the district annual meeting will
be held in Auburn, April 7 at 1:30
p.m.
The training school for the 4-H
Garden Club leaders will be held
April 8 in Wingham. at 'the Salva-
tion Army Citadel, The leaders
will be Mrs. Ruth Gordon and
Miss Barbara Moore.
It was agreed that the Institute
would cater to the Auburn WI op •
May 14 and also to a reception for
Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Hanna's
40th wedding anniversary, May.

asked to help the nominating
committee alone of the members

Mrs. William Coultes reported
on the senior course, "Baked in a
Pie", and stated it Was well
received with a total of 27 ladies
taking part. The surninary day
will be held in Wingham United
Church on April 2 at 1:30 p.m. All
ladies are invited to attend.
