With only, 24 seconds left, on a
nice three-w,ay, Paaaing play Bob
Johnston and Murray Black sent
linejnate Steve Caslick in alone.
With the goalie at his mercy
Steve% made a perfect move to
draw the goalie out of his net and
tucked the puck in behind him. It
was .a beauty, and a type of goal
not seen too often these days. So,
after 20 Minutes of good playoff
action the Iron nen had a com-
manding. 4-i lead.
It was only 57 seconds into the
second period and Gerry
Wheeler's third goal of the game
shot the Ironmen ahead 5-1. Then
the pace slowed somewhat as the
Ironmen went into a defensive
game and checked the Bears at
every turn. -As the period drew to
a close that Big ' Bad Bear,
George Schamott, dented the
twine to send the teams to the
dressing room with the Ironmen
ahead 5-2.
The third period saw the Bears
run out of steam as' the Ironmen
cautiously protected their lead.
An injury to Rick Foulon made
coach George Skinn go with two
defensive pairs and that strong
blueline brigade gave the Bears
problems supreme. At 5:51 Barry
MacDonald picked offfa rebound
and in a deceiving move flipped
the puck high into the net. Port
Elgin's Arnie Mittendorf got the
final goal of the game at 7:24.

P
Port Elgin bombs Ironmen
by b-3 count to even series
In Sunday •afternoon hockey
action at the Port Elgin arena,
before a crowd of mainly Iron-
men supporters, the Port Elgin
Bears evened the • best -of -seven
series at three each. They humili-
ated the Ironmen, defeating them
6-3.
Port Elgin jumped into the lead •
as Rick Greig set up linemate
Brad Moffat at 3:53. Then . at
15:09, playing a man short, the
same duo, Brad Moffat and Rick
Greig, did the damage with Rick
the marksman.
However the Ironmyen finally
got on the score sheet at' 16:51
when Murray Black threw a pass
through the crease and Steve
Caslick fired it home.
After the first 20 minutes the
Ironmen were very lucky to be
down only one with the score 2-1
for the Bears.
The second period belonged to
the Bears and to the Bears alone.
In the first two minutes of the
period two quick goals, one by
,Murray Cobean and the other by
Rick Johnson, sent the Bears into
a 4-1 Lead.
At every turn the Bears out -
skated, outhit and but -hustled the
Ironmen. They had enthusiasm
and desire for victory. At the mid
mark of the period the Bears add=
ed insult to injury as they shamed
the Ironmen by scoring two goals
in less 'than two minutes. What
really hurt was that both of the
goals, one by Brad Moffat and the
other by Arnie Mittendorf, came
while. the Bears were playing a
man short and the only power the
Ironmen power' play produced
added to the Bears' goal total.
The only few seconds of Iron -
men action in that second period
was the solo end-to-end rush
made by Murray. McKague at
16:26 to give the Ironmen their
only goal of the period. They
found themselves on the short
end of a 6-2 score at. the end of the
second.
It was only in the third that the
Ironmen played as they can play,
but it was too little, too late and
Murray Black flipped one in at
3:47 for the final goal of the
game.
Yes the Bears with this 6-3 win
are very much alive. With the

series all tied up the best -of -7 now
is down to a do-or-die final
seventh game.
WHISTLE STOPS ...It was a bad
Sunday for the Ironmen. The
strategy which had won last Sun-
day's game was anything but ef-
fectivin this 6-3 loss. No one was
skatingor hitting. The two Iron -
pear to be more liability than
asset. The only Ironmen showing
any spark was Murray McKague
and that solo goal effort was a
beauty. It is rather humiliating to
have your power play give up
three goals to the opposition as
happened in this one. Any kind of
a power play by the Ironmen
could have meant victory, but
they just didn't have it. The
Bears were certainly hitting.
They played it rough and picked
up 43 minutes in penalties while
Ironmen sat out 21 minutes... The
Ironmen kept the big gun, Bears
captain Bob McKinnon, in check
but it was that pair, Brad Moffat
and Rick Greig, who were sharp
in this game. Brad picked up two
goals and an assist while
linemate Rick scored one and as-
sisted on two.
After six games the series is all
tied up at 3 each. The victor in the
next game advances against the
winner of the Arthur-Wiarton
series, which -presently stands at
3 games to 2 for Arthur.
