Week's action for Belmore teams
On January 9 the Tykes played
and defeated Listowel with a
score of 12-2. Players to get goals
were Tom Inglis 5, Pat Weber 2,
Steven Wright 2,,Keith Harper 1,
Bryan Martin 1, and Julie 1Vf.ulvey

The Belmore Tykes defeated
East Howick on January 11, -by a'
score of 3-0. T91.11 Inglis, Keith
Harper and Pat Weber each had
singles..
West Howick was defeated 3-0
by the Belmore Tykes on January
13. The goal getters^"were Pat
Weber, Tom Inglis and Keith
Harper each with one.
On January 18, the Tykes won
against Listowel 9-1. Team
members to get,goals were Keith
Harper 3, and one each from
Steven Wright and Pat Weber,
and Tom Inglis collected 4.
The Squirts played against
Kurtzville on January 15, and
won at 9-2. Rob Helfenstein got 3
goals, Dan Kennedy 2, Allan
Kieffer 2, Keith Rutherford 1, and
Larry Fischer 1.
On January 15, the Belmore
PeeWees defeated West Howick

There was no Iack of team
• spirit and friendly competition at
the seven -school volleyball
tournament for area public
schools held at the F. E. Madill
gyms Saturday, Jan. 18. Teams
waiting their turns to compete
cheered on other team members;
boys rooted for girls and girls
clapped and cheered for their
boys' teams.
It was_ an all -day event with a
break for lunch was was super-
vised by coaches and teachers
from all the school involved. The
boys and girls teams played six
games each and were awarded
three points for a win and one
point for a loss.
Howick Central teams • cap-
tured first place for both teams
with°six wins each, followed
closely- by Wingham Public
School boys and girls teams with
five wins each. Sacred Heart
boys team got four wins, but the
girls won only two of the "six
games played. In the boys' divi-
sion, East Wawanosh, Grey
Central and Turnberry Central
won two games each, while Brus-
sels Public lost all six. In the
girls' competition, East - Wawa -
nosh and Brussels Public won
three games each, followed by
Grey Central with two wins and
Turnberry Central with no wins.

Inglis 1, Greg Dally 1, and

The Bantams defeated East
Howick 5-3 on January 13. Willie
Stafford got 2 goals, Bryan Hays

1.
And on January 16 the Bantams
defeated Kurtzville 6-3. Players
to get goals were Bryan Hays 2,
Ross Baird 1, Dave Fischer 1,
Willie Stafford 1, and Greg Inglis
1.
The Belmore Midgets were
beaten by Kurtzville 5-3 on Janu-
aay 15 when Paul Dickson got 2
goals and Willie Stafford 1.
Qn January 18, the PeeWees
defeated Byron. The goal getters
were Kenton Schaefer 2, Murray
Mawhinney 2, Don Busby 1, and'
Doug Busby 1. The Byron team
had two goals to make a score of
6-2.
Howick arena
sees more action
in hockey games
FORDWICH ;- As the wind
blew and the blizzard raged out-
side, the excitement of hockey
fans kept the temperature'
reasonably high in the Howick
Arena as teams once again lined
the ice to do battle with pucks, and
sticks.
Kurtzville Bantams defeated
the Howick West lads 3-1 and in
Juvenile action, the Mildmay
lads tramped on a few toes and
put Howick on the losing end of a
11-3 score.
It wasn't a good week for the
PeeWees, either. The East boys
lost to Belgrave 3-1 and the West
team were put nicely in their
place, 10-3 to be exact, by the Bel -
more boys.
The two Howick Squirt teams
did battle, East coming out on top
9-3. Midget action, in a good
game, saw Howick and Blyth tie
the score at 7 apiece.
Intermediate competition was
between Howick and Monkton,
the home boys doubling the op-
position's score; a 10-5 game re-
sulted.
In exhibition action, the
Howick East Junior Girls downed
the Howick West Tykes 4-0 but
went down to defeat 3-1 at the
hands of the Howick East Tykes.
The March of Dimes acts as an
advocate on behalf of disabled
adults to ensure they receive any
and all benefits to which they are
entitled.

BOIMie Dougilas came up with
both the high single of 226 and the
high triple of 606. For the guys, it
was John Campbell's 286 single
and Wes Simmons' 666.

Hockey players
to receive
crests, bars
The January meeting of the
Mothers' Auxiliary to Wingham
Minor Hockey was held last week
in the arena.
Diane Grove designed several
Wingham Minor Hockey crests
which were viewed and turned
over to Minor Hockey re-
presentatives, to be decided upon
at their next meeting. These
crests and year bars will be pre-
sented to all minor hockey
players at the banquet or trophy
night, whichever is decided upon
at the end of the season. The
crests will be ordered- at the
earliest convenience.
Minor hockey representatives,
Wayne Pletch and Gary Watcher,
attended the meeting and stated
that Jim Ward is the new con-
vener for the Atom house league
and Ted Surridge for the Pee
Wee -Bantam house league. Also
discussed was the possibility of
having a billboard erected at the
front of the arena for posting up-
coming hockey games and activi-
ties at the arena. A weekly notice
in the Advance -Times, for arena
activities, is also to be investi-
gated.
Arrangements are to be made
for all minor hickey teams to
have pictures taken by Jim
Snyder of Snyder Studio. The pic-
tures will be available for purl
chase by all players.
Any mothers wholtre willing to
donate a couple of hours of their
time to work in the booth this
month, are asked to please con -

Th next meeting of the
Mothers' Auxiliary will be held
February 10 at 8:30 in the arena.

Howick Arena
Doug McGregOt'• with two goals
led the Wingham Kinsmen Ban-
tams to a 74 victory over the
Durham hockey team in action at
the Wingham Arena Friday, Jaq.
V. The victora suffered Wades,
however, as five of the nine
players were treated at the hos-
pital after the game.
There was no. -scoring in the
first period, but Durham scored
their first marker on goaltender
Doug Taylor early in the second
period. Doug McGregor then
scored two goals and Gord Kina-
han scored one,goal to end the
period at 3-1.
In the third, Larry Milosevic,
Davie Kieffer, Jay MacLaurin
and Rick MacLennan each
scored one goal and Durham
scored their second goal for a
final count of Wingham 7, Dur-
ham 2.
The Wingham club, still smart-
ing from their previous encounter
with Abe Listowel A team, ac-
counted for 16 of the 24 penalty
minutes. Dave Kieffer and Doug
McGregor, both sporting stitches
from injuries sustained in that
game, took ten of those 16
minutes.
The Wingham club will host the
Exeter Bantams in an exhibition
game Friday, January 24 at 7
p.m. in the Wingham Arena.
