Ice Capades
. The Wingham Senior Citizens
Met in the Armouries on Tues-
day, January I4, with a good at-
tendance. Due to the absence of
both thle president and vice-presi-
dent, Mr. Copeland capably con-
ducted the meeting.
After opening with The Queen,
the Lord's Prayer was repeated
and Mrs. Lillian Patterson read
the minutes. After a discussion
about -open days for the Drop -In
centre, the following committee
was put in charge: Mrs. Godkin,
Mrs.. Fisher and Bert Holmes.
Several activities were suggested
as projects, namely weaving,
ceramics and leathercraft. Mrs.
Margaret Hastings, Mrs. Lillian
Patterson and Mr. Copeland form
a committee to be in charge of
projects.
It was decided to take a bus to
the Ice Capades in Kitchener on
Tuesday, March 11. Admission
price is $3.50 plus bus fare.
Anyone interested in making the
trip is asked to leave his or her
name with the secretary, Mrs.
Patterson.
After dinging "0 Canada", pro-
gressive euchre was played and
lunch was served. Prize winners
for high scores were Mrs. Pearl
Shiell and George Grigg. There
were also ieveral draw prizes.
The next meeting will be
January 23 and will commenceat
six o'clock with a pot luck supper.
The committee in charge of lunch
for the February meeting will be
Mrs, Olive Walker, Mrs. Ella
Shiell, Mrs. Mildred Stewart,
Mrs. N. Thompson and Mr. and
Mrs. George. Scott.

Wingham and District Hospital
administrator Norman Hayes
was guest speaker at the Thurs-
day meeting of the Wingham Wo-
men's Institute .January 16.
Mr. Hayes outlined for the 38
members and guests the pro-
posals -of the Mustard Plan set up
by a group of health experts. He
said the plan suggested changes
in the health program that would
co-ordinate the various health
groups in Ontario for a more ef-
ficient distribution of health ser-
vices. Mr Bayes explained that
some of the suggestions outlined
in the plan had already been
modified for use and that further
changes would he iiilplemented
as the plan is studied
Mrs Wr1-li-am Elston thanked
Mr. Hayes. who had first been in-
troduced by Miss Agnes William-
son. The motto "The Three `R's'
for Nome 'l'raining - Respect,
Reverence. Responsibility" was
presented by Mrs. D. S Mac -
Naughton. Mrs. Harry Bateman
entertained with some piano
selections
Mrs. Mary Armstrong reported
on the fall rally at Stratford. Roll
call was answered by the name of
a country and its national an-
them. Mrs Bradburn, Mrs. Halli-
day and Mrs. Jardine were ap-
pointed to the nominating com-
mittee, and Mrs. Robert Powell
was named convener of the
catering committee for the meet-
ing with 4-11 leaders in February.

aret Foxton were appointed to at-
tend Senior Leaders Training
School in Wingham on Feb. 4-5.

President Mrs. Wood announc-
ed that she had registration
forms for a weekend at Five Oaks
January .31 to February 2; also
that Huron -Perth Presbyterial
UCW meeting will be held at
Trinity United Church, Listowel,
,on February 26.
Treasurer . Mrs. Courtney re-
ported that 1974 had been a suc-
cessful year with many worthy
causes supported.
An In Memoriam period, for
members who 'had passed away
in 1974, was conducted by Mrs.
Underwood.
Mr. Passmore showed a film,
"Spaces Between People", which
featured clips from the movie of
the 60s, "To Sir With Love". Fol-
lowing the showing of the film,
the meeting broke into small
groups to discuss "Prejudice"
over 'a cup of tea. Some of the
thought-provoking questions dis-
cussed were "What Is Preju-
dice?"; "Is There Prejudice in
Wingham?"; "Are You Prejudic-
ed Against Some Person or
Group?".
60th anniversary celebrants
were married in Wingham
A family dinner to honor the
60th wedding anniversary of Mr.
and Mrs. Walter Tisdale of
Kindersley, Saskatchewan, was
held on January 6 at Tisdale's
Restaurant.
They were married in Wing -
ham and farmed in this area .for
:,,two years. In March of 1917 they
moved west of the Loverna dis-
trict where they farmed for the
next 33 years. On retirement in
1949 they moved to Kindersley
where they resided at 318 -2nd
Ave West. In February, 1974,
they moved to Sunset Lodge.
Mr. and Mrs. Tisdale have two
sons, Norman and Orville and
five grandchildren, all living in
Kindersley.
Congratulations were sent
from Vancouver, Calgary, Wing -
ham, Lethbridge and Regina;
also from the Queen, Dr. Cliff
Mclsaac, M.P.; Honorable Alex
Taylor; Premier Alan Blakeney;

GORRIE - Despite the incle-
ment weather, the members of
the local Women's Institute
gathered at the home of Mrs.
Martin Scott for their January
meeting on the evening of Janu-
ary 15. Mrs. William Thornton,
president, presided over the
meeting.
Following roll call and minutes
read by the'secretary.,, Mrs. •Jack
Ferguson. and the treasurer's
report by Mrs. Robert Gibson,"`
who also expressed the pleasure
of the Howick Lions Club with
dinner and supper served by the
institute for the Lions curling
bonspiel held the previous Mon-
day, Mrs. Thornton turned the
meeting over to Mrs. Melvin Tay-
lor for her Resolutions program.
Mrs. Taylor spoke on the motto
for the month, "An acre of per-
formance is worth a whole world
of promises" and a_ group di--
cussion followed on "motivation
produces ideas".
Mrs. Deanie Scherpenzeel of
Gorrie gave an interesting
demonstration of making
knypertjes, a Dutch cookie, a
must tq have on hand during the
Christmas holiday season in Hol-
l3nd, to treat guests who call. The
. ladies enjoyed sampling the
cookies and Mrs. Scherpenzeel
was given a gift of appreciation
and thanked for her demonstra-
tion.

Treasurer . Mrs. Courtney re-
ported that 1974 had been a suc-
cessful year with many worthy
causes supported.
An In Memoriam period, for
members who 'had passed away
in 1974, was conducted by Mrs.
Underwood.
Mr. Passmore showed a film,
"Spaces Between People", which
featured clips from the movie of
the 60s, "To Sir With Love". Fol-
lowing the showing of the film,
the meeting broke into small
groups to discuss "Prejudice"
over 'a cup of tea. Some of the
thought-provoking questions dis-
cussed were "What Is Preju-
dice?"; "Is There Prejudice in
Wingham?"; "Are You Prejudic-
ed Against Some Person or
Group?".
60th anniversary celebrants
were married in Wingham
A family dinner to honor the
60th wedding anniversary of Mr.
and Mrs. Walter Tisdale of
Kindersley, Saskatchewan, was
held on January 6 at Tisdale's
Restaurant.
They were married in Wing -
ham and farmed in this area .for
:,,two years. In March of 1917 they
moved west of the Loverna dis-
trict where they farmed for the
next 33 years. On retirement in
1949 they moved to Kindersley
where they resided at 318 -2nd
Ave West. In February, 1974,
they moved to Sunset Lodge.
Mr. and Mrs. Tisdale have two
sons, Norman and Orville and
five grandchildren, all living in
Kindersley.
Congratulations were sent
from Vancouver, Calgary, Wing -
ham, Lethbridge and Regina;
also from the Queen, Dr. Cliff
Mclsaac, M.P.; Honorable Alex
Taylor; Premier Alan Blakeney;
Hon. John G. Diefenbaker, M.P.;\

at meeting of Institute
GORRIE - Despite the incle-
ment weather, the members of
the local Women's Institute
gathered at the home of Mrs.
Martin Scott for their January
meeting on the evening of Janu-
ary 15. Mrs. William Thornton,
president, presided over the
meeting.

read by the'secretary.,, Mrs. •Jack
Ferguson. and the treasurer's
report by Mrs. Robert Gibson,"`
who also expressed the pleasure
of the Howick Lions Club with
dinner and supper served by the
institute for the Lions curling
bonspiel held the previous Mon-
day, Mrs. Thornton turned the
meeting over to Mrs. Melvin Tay-
lor for her Resolutions program.
Mrs. Taylor spoke on the motto
for the month, "An acre of per-
formance is worth a whole world
of promises" and a_ group di--
cussion followed on "motivation
produces ideas".
Mrs. Deanie Scherpenzeel of
Gorrie gave an interesting
demonstration of making
knypertjes, a Dutch cookie, a
must tq have on hand during the
Christmas holiday season in Hol-
l3nd, to treat guests who call. The
. ladies enjoyed sampling the
cookies and Mrs. Scherpenzeel
was given a gift of appreciation
and thanked for her demonstra-
tion.
