anti times spread at present like the gloom
of an eclipse over the country. .At least
we have felt our depression worse than
that of any other house` and have lain
quietly under it with held breath long.
enough. Every wheel taros up as well as
down, every lung swells as` well as
ebbs, we have done our ebbing and goue
down under water and now feel inclined
to rub clear our eyes once more and
swim. Public sepportis something like
water, buoyant enough if one has eon-
fidence.enough . in it. Public support is
something like water is, bound to sink
where one leaves an opening. We know
whereof -we speak and invite it with the
thought that its furthering waves may
view with some satisfaction our progress
We show a large stock this season, in fact
rather large for a town of this size, but
favor us with your patronage and we will
try in our line to provide our patrons with
all the advantages given by the bookstores
of any moderate sized town of Ontario.
Respectfully,
J. Grigg.

BASE BALs.—Oar attention was lcalled
to one of the items that appeared n the
news from Zuilich in your issue of he 5th
inst. in which we stated the result of the
match between Zurich and Credito i to be
27 to 29 in favor of Zurich. Your
correspondent was' , not present at the
match and therefore reported the result
as heard from those who were present.
There was ro attempt made to misrepre-
sent any of the players of either `clubs. It
was simply that if we reported Wrong we
were 'misinformed. Your correspondent
was present at the &rst match between
there clubs in Crediton and cannot spes,k
too. 'highly of the treatment received from
the home team. We are sorry that the
mistake (if. such it was) was made - and
hope if we reported true to see it justified.
As to the ball we auow nothing of it.
That part of the item referring to the
disputes was also reported from the infor-
mation of ethers which information we at
that time believed to be'true. ' We have
Only heard the contrary from the Crediton

players nor the Detitsehlanders of Zurich
will not attach any blame to tis. as we did
not wish to misrepresent anyone.
