Ironman upset W'i-a:rto-n 9-5
Despite being short in numbers
each and every member of the
Ironmen Jr. D. team. gave it his
all, and came back from Wiarton
last Friday night with a 9-5 win.
Wiarton jumped into the lead at
3:14 on a goal by Bruce Rouse but
.the Ironmen„got that one back at
the 13 minute mark when Doug
Leitch took a pass - from Greg
Hamilton and fired it home.. A
minute later the little Giant
Killers put the Ironmen ahead
with John Henderson scoring and
Doug Leitch drawing the ,assist. ,.
Greg Hamilton potted one from
the point at 16:32 to give the Iron -
men a 34 lead at the end of the
first period.
The second ;period was an
unusual one. Wiarton picket up
most of the penalties, no less than
28 minutes plus a game major
misconduct to B. Peter. The Iron -
men stuck strictly to hockey and
with only six minutes in penalties
and the man advantage for . nost•
of the period fired five unan-
swered goals. Yes, with , Gerry
Wheeler's goal and pairs by Phil
Paquette and Carl - Stanley the
Ironmen had 'the game well in
hand with a 8-1 lead at the end of
the second.
Both teams settled down' to
play hockey in the' third. Doug
Leitch struck early with a goal it
1:15 to make it 9-1. Wisely,, the
Ironmen played it strictly with
caution to avoid injury. Wiarton,

happy team that returned from
Wiarton with this 9-5 win.
Q.-970
WHISTLE STOPS - All week
from the lips of Doug and George
Skinn came the concerned words
"We're down to only two defence -
;nen for this Wiarton game."
Well, they had only two regular
defencemen-buiingers Murray
Black- and Keith Raymond
dropped back for blueline duty
and played like seasoned
veterans of the blueline. By gosh,
the defence was superb andin the
first, a man short, they gave that
Wiarton team nary a shot on goal.
The defence was good and with
excellent goal tending by Paul
Heffer the defence played with
confidence in their goal tender
and Paul didn't let them down.
He literally had Wiarton shooters
in utter frustration as he stopped
'them from point blank range
time and time again.
As..the referees skated on the
ice it spelled a Tough game. Yes,
you guessed it, that same pair of
Y whistle tooters, Frank fierce and
ack Crozier. I wonder if they

ed ... Penalties there were with
Wiarton with 44 minutes.while the
Ironmen picked up 18 minutes .. .
Ironmen leading thescoring
punch in this one were Doug
Leitch, Carl Stanley and Phil Pa-
quette, with two goals each .. .
Injuries had the Ironmen ranks
down tai 12 players and 2 goalies
for this one. Rick Foxton is out
with a hairline skull fracture;
Mark Chisholm is on the mend
after an ankle injury; Murray
McKague with shoulder injury;
and Gerry Wheeler missed some
third period action with a clip in
the mouth.
No ,game this coming Sunday,
Jan 12th but keep in mind that
Wiarton will be in town for Sun-
day night action January 19th.
And as captain Doug Leitch put it
after Friday's game, "Gee, that
Arthur team is tame compared to
this fighting Wiarton gang."
Should be a good one!
