'HUGH BURNET SMITH
Funeral services were held
Friday, Dec. 27 at 2 p.m. from the
McLaughlin and Reed Funeral
Home, Listowel, for the late Hugh
Burnet Smith, 80, of the Callan -
ear Nursing Home, Brussels.
Mr. Smith died Dec. 24 at Wing -
ham and District Hospital.
Born Sept. 12, 1894 in Grey
Township, he was a son of the late
Mr. and Mrs. Oliphant (Mary
Ireland) Smith.
His wife, the "former Agnes
Sangster, also predeceased him.
A retired farmer, Mr. Smith
was a member of the Molesworth
Presbyterian Church and a 50 -
year jewel member of Bernard
(Masonic) Lodge No: 225 of Listo-
wel.
He is survived by three sons,
James of Molesworth, G. Mac of
RR 2, Listowel and Kenneth of
Kitchener; one daughter, Mrs.
Wallace (Marion) McKee of At-
wood; three brothers, William of
Brussels, James of Brussels,
Charles of Belgrave; three
sisters, Mrs. Melvin (Jean) Tay-
lor and Mrs. Sam (Margaret)
Sweeney, both of Brussels and
Mrs. Clifford (Marjorie) Ritchie
of Walton; 12 grandchildren and.
one great-grandchild. He was
predeceased by two sisters.
Rev. John Brush of Molesworth
conducted the funeral service. A
Masonic Lodge service was held
Thursday at 8 p.m., .Dec. 26.
Burial was in Molesworth
Cemetery.

Miss. Stokes dies
at Huronview
A native of Howick Township,
Miss Elizabeth Lenore (Bessie)
Stokes passed away at Huron -
view, Clinton, on Wednesday,
December 18, following a lengthy
illness. She wa&in her 57th year.
Born in Howick- on October 19,
1918, Miss Stokes was a daughter
of the late James Stokes and
Elizabeth Lane. She was a
member of Knox Presbyterian
Church, Belmore.
Surviving are three sisters,
Mrs. Fraser (Eva) Haugh of
Bluevale, Mrs. Leslie (Olive)
Bolt of Belgrave and Mrs.
Clarence (Alba) Yuill of RR 5,
Brussels; and two brothers, John
Stokes of RR 1, Wroxeter .and
Clarence Stokes of Ingersoll.
The late Miss Stoke rested at
the R. A. Currie and Son Funeral
Home, Wingham, where funeral
service was conducted Friday,
December 20, at two ''o'clock by
Wayne Baswick of Knox Church,
Belmore. Interment followed in
McIntosh Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Ross Yuill,
John Nixon, Elwood Fitch, Harry
Mulvey, Alvin Fitch and Carl
Fitch. Cameron Yuill carried
floral tributes.

GEORGE R. LANE
George Robertson Lane, 85, of
333 Barber Ave. north, Listowel,
formerly of Wingham, died Dec.
28 in Listowel Memorial hospital.
Born on March 15, 1889 in Crys-
tal, North Dakota, he was a son of
the late Mr. and Mrs. John (Isa-
belle Robertson) Lane.
He married Mabel McKey` on-
Dec. 29, 1915 in Belmore, She
predeceased him on Dec. 24, 1957,
Mr. Lane farmed on the Lane
homestead south of Belmore all
his life until retiring to Wingham
in 1955. He moved to Listowel in
September 1973 to reside with his
son John.
He was a member of St.. An-
drew's Presbyterian Church,
Wingham, and a formet elder of
the Belmore Presbyterian
Church.
He is survived by one son, John
of Listowel; two daughters, Mrs.
R. B. (Jean) Palmer of London
and Mrs. Muriel Stewart of Don
Mills; 10 grandchildren and two
great-grandct ildren. Besides his
wife, he was predeceased by two
sisters.
They funeral service was held
Tuesday, Dec. 31, at 2 p.m. at the
Robert Trench Funeral }tome,
385 Main St. west, Listowel, with
Rev. Gordon Beaton of Knox
Presbyterian Church' in charge.
Temporary entombment was
at Fairview Chapel, Listowel,
with spring burial to. be' at the
McIntosh* Cemetery, . Belmore.
Pallbearers were Klaas
Jorritsma., David Haugh, Merd
Livingstone, William Merkley,
Joseph Schneider and George
Nickel.
Donations to the Gideon Bible
Society were accepted as ex-
pressions of sympathy.

Haines
was native
of Culross
Gillies Haines of RR 2, Aylmer,
passed away at his late residence
on Monday, December 23, after -a
short illness. He was born on the
• 14th concession of Culross Tovvn-
ship and was in his 89th year.
He moved to Dungannon where
he farmed for a number of years,
later moving to Aylmer. He was a
member of the Senior Citizens
and also the Bowling Club.
Mr. Haines was predeceased
by -his first wife in 1933. He is sur-
vived by his wife, the former Ber-
nice Gere; two sons, Carman of
Wingham and Neil of Aylmer;
also two grandsons and one great
grandson.
The funeral service was held at
the Kebbel Funeral Home, Ayl-
mer, on Thursday, December 26,
Rev. Norman Jones officiating.
Temporary entombment took
place in Aylmer Cemetery with "
interment later in Greenhill
Cemetery, Lucknow.

Mrs. Whim N. Robertson of
RR 1, Biyevale, OKI at her home
on Friday, 'December 24. a was
in her 92ad year and had been ill
for a short time.
Born ill Esst Wawanosh Town-
ship, Mrs, Robertson was the
former Mary Abraham, daughter
of the late Thomas Abraham and
Elizabeth Casemore.
She was married to William N.
Robertson of Belgrave is 1910 and
lived in East Wawano'h Town-
ship for awhile before moving to
the Bluevale area in 1934. She
was predeceased by her husband
In 1968.
Surviving are a daughter,
Jean, and ° son, Limb both of
Bluevale, and a brother Maxwell
Abraham of Kitchener.
The late Mrs. Robertson rested
at the R. A. Currie and Son
Funeral Home, Wingham, where
Rev. Robert Armstrong and
Wayne Baswick conducted
funeral service at two o'clock on
Monday, December 23.
Pallbearers were Lloyd
Wheeler, Gordon Sanderson,
Ross Gray, James Sha v, Wilson
Thornton and Stanley Moffatt.
Floral tributes were carried by
Graeme Anderson and Harold
Casemore.
Mrs. P:Anderson
dies in hospital~
Mrs. Peter Anderson of Vic-
toria St., Wingham; died Monday,
December 16, at the Wingham
and District Hospital. She was in
her 92nd year and death followed
an illness of one week. Mrs.
Anderson has been at the Brook-
haven Nursing Home since
February 1971.
Born in Turnberry Township,
Mrs. Anderson was the former
Jessie MacDonald, daughter of
the" late'Catherine MacEwen and
Alexander MacDonald. She was
predeceased by her husband in
1949.
Mrs. Anderson was formerly a
registered nurse and graduated
from the Nichols Memorial
Training School for Nurses in
Battle Creek, Mich., in 1912. She
and her husband moved to Vir-
den, Man., after their marriage
in 1915. She returned to Wingham •
in 1948.
Surviving are a nephew, Red-
mond MacDonald, RR 2, Wing -
ham and two nieces, June Will of
North Bay and Virginia Flint of
Port Huron, Mich. She was pre-
deceased by one ' brother and
three sisters.
The late Mrs. Anderson rested .
at the S. J. Walker Funeral
Home, Wingham, "there Rev,
Robert Armstrong conducted
funeral service at two o'clock on
Wednesday, December 18. Inter-
ment followed in Wingham
Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Harold Kerr,
Jack Reavie, Gordon Robinson,
Bill Tiffin, Arthur Bryce and
