Wingharn police have charged
Mrs. Carol. Watson of RR 1,
Wroxeter, with failing to" yield
right -of --way folbwing an acci-
dent at the intersection of . Jose-
phine St. and Baine in the north
end of town early last Thursday.

Zimmer said Mrs. Beatrice
Brooks . of .Teeswater, the driver
ofthe other car, and Mrs. Watson
were taken to .Wingham and
District Hospital following the
accident. The hospital reports
Mrs. Brooks was released after
treatment for chest injuries,
while Mrs. Watson was admitted
to the hospital with head injuries.
She is listed in satisfactory condi-
tion.
The accident occurred when
Mrs. Watson was making a left-
hand turn from the B-line south
onto Josephine St. As she tried to
make her turn she collided with
Mrs. Brooks' car which was
travelling north on the street.
About 42,500 worth of damage
was sustained by the cars. Acting
Chief Zimmer said that one of the
vehicles has been labelled a total
write-off.
Wingham police officers were
also the first men on the scene at
an accident on Hwy. 4 south of the
CKNX towers on Oct. 20. The
Acting Chief said Leonard
Underwood of Clifford And Gail
Mayberry of Kitchener were
taken to Wingham .'Hospital for
treatment of injuries. Both
patients were released after
treatment.'
The accident was investigated
by Const. W. R. Bell of the Wing -
ham OPP detachment but no
details about the mishap have
been released by that depart-
ment.
Police laid a charge of possess-
ing liquor in a place other than
residence against Doug Vander-
woude of Wingham after police
searched the man's car and found
a quantity of beer in the front
seat.
During the week the police
have undertaken a number of
criminal investigations. The
acting chief said police are
looking into reports that a
prowler was at large in the Car-
ling Terrace area on October 19
and the force is also conducting
investigations into two willful
damage incidents reported by
town residents after one's car
window was smashed and a ball
bearing was thrown through
another front window.
On October 1a, Wingham police
assisted an ambulance crew
from the hospital after a man fell
20 feet from a catwalk, through a

John Small, Canadian. MO
Commissioner to China, arrived
from Peking recently., Mr. Small
and wife Jean visited. Walter
Krug of George Street, Wingham,
last Thursday. They are hotne'on
a short leave, leaving their
second daughter Margaret en-
gaged in Chinese studies for the
year. Three other daughters who
visited their parents during Aug-
ust are continuing their education
in Canada.
Mr. Small was born in Chengtu,
West China, attended O.A.C. at
Guelph, then served in the Can-
adian Navy before entering the
Department of External Affairs.
He has had postings in Amster-
dam, Pakistan, Paris, Hong Kong
and his present one, first as an
Agriculture and Trade Adviser
and Consultant in the Embassies.
The Smalls were relaxing at
Bruce Beach after a rail journey
with stop -over in Moscow before
their flight to Canada.
