"Especially our play leader training program which trained 145 this year, our largest enrollment yet. Very close liaison will exist this year with the.newly formed clus- ter groups. These groups are in effect sub zones of Ontario Muni- cipal Recreation Association and are clusters of communities in a geographic area with' common interests andkactivities. Wingham is involved in cluster group six., This gives a contact with the communities of Kinloss, Lucknow, Ashfield, Blyth, Brus- sels, Howick, . West Wawanosh and Grey Township. These clusters are represented by people from recreation com- mittees in their various com- munities. Although there • are some directors involved, they are on a par with the lay people. Sports and recreation branch representative Bud Bitton of Hanover called the Association of Recreation Directors. "one of the most active in the province". "I think that this is so because we have a good bunch of guys with a real interest in their communi- ties," he added. Mr. Bitton said that the zone was an active one "because it is a unique area with almost all of the communities represented be- ing about the same size. There are no large urban centres in- volved so we have a group with similar interests and problems." Pointing out one example of the concern that the association has for recreation in the zone, he ex- plained that a Youth in Action grant had been obtained by the body and with the money re- ceived, a director of recreation had been hired for the summer to assist the small communities which could not afford a profes- sional. "The communities of Lake Huron Zone also benefit because their local recreation directors are better people through the ex- change of ideas at the zone level. Secondly we have better pro- grams here because the association organizes them to the benefit of the whole zone," the representative said. Spanning three time zones and draining one-fifth of the total area of Canada, the Mackenzie ranks as one of the world's largest river systems. Its 700,000 square mile drainage area is eov valent to the lam arms of Great Britain, France, Germany, Spain, Portugal and Italy com- bined. a,* F J 'l►16M t' out for l en Fit*. t*the t met and Frac*,: with, res .. score of 4& win s. lerank M and Hamilton; Bill Tfanela asd Elaine Wail 'lledgerKetey and Heather Il ; George Walker and Viyrle Frank, 'George and Shirley • Walker# Moreland and Marg Mann; Gogh* Marie Ping.
