high adventure, "lush scenery
from the French Riviera and
some big -name stars - that's
what "The Zoo Gang"' is all
about. It is a new six -part series
playing Saturday evenings at
8:30, the story of four crime
fighters, veterans of they war, who
are reunited after 30 years and
back at the same dangerous job
of fighting Crime.
Filmed completely on location
on -the French Riviera, the series
is based on Paul Gallico's
bestseller about four veterans of
the French Resistance working
in a new .world of vice and
murder, a different kind of
violence perhaps from their days
in the war, yet adventure of the
most exciting kind. •
Veterans could well be the
word used to describe the stars,
who play the title roles, animal.
codenames which gives the series
its name. French actress Lilli
Palmer is The Leopard, a French
restaurant owner and widow of a
war fighter killed by the Gestapo.
This is Miss Palmer's . first
starring role in a television series
and her presence always adds
distinction to a cast.
A top British actor, John Mills
is The Elephant, former British
commando officer now operating
a jewellery shop in Nice. He is
well known for many movie roles,
often with daughter Hayley or
wife Hayley Bell (daughter Juliet
is also an actress). Mills won an
Oscar for his role of the village
idiot in "Ryan's Daughter".
Former overseas U.S. secret
service agent Stephen Halliday is
played by Brian Keith and he is
known as The Fox. He is no
stranger to television fans,
haig played top starring roles
in "Family Affair" and Little
Potpie". He has also appeared in
several movies.
Our own talented Barry Morse
plays The Tiger, the Canadian in
the group who is a former
lientettant in the RCAF'. He has
played roles in Canadian televi-
sion, on stage, in Hollywood and
in London. What an opportunity
to play with stars of the calibre of
Mill*, Falmer and Keith! And
whist an idea for producer
H Blirachtnan, who in his
series'hat a Canadian playing a
Cradian, a Britisher playing a
Bridal* and, so on. He's no
itioltperienced clod either; a-
by Venni Lee
mong his accomplishments have
been "Twilight Zone", "Dr,
Kildare" and "Perry Mason". So
adventure and top entertainment
come natural to him..
Music in the series is by Paul
and Linda McCartney, husband -
and -wife team (he used to be with
the Beatles) who are co -compos-
ing music for a TV series for the
first time.
This idea of mini-series is a fast
growing fad. If the series is good,
it leaves you • with nothing but
praise for a short -but -sweet in-
terlude. If it's bad, you're • glad
it lasts six weeks so something
new can take over! Either way,
it's a plan that seems to work out;
in the case of "The Zoo Gang",
we will no doubt be sorry to see
them go after a mere six weeks. •
