a that I have the slightest objection to Mr.

they ignore the application of Mr. George

't* DEAR SIRt-I was not aware of what WAS
going on in the public sehool circles until
aY reading the minutes of the Scoop' 'Board,

"Parent" had to say, but his disapproVal
t was scarcely forMble enough to cope with
that rash act of tbe 111181088. I have
0 spoken to several of my neighbore about
s• the appointment and ail are of my opinion,
0 viz: That it was either a carelessly cen.
sitlerod or pre -arranged eeleetien. The
° work of filming out one of the best teach -
ere in Ontario and engaging a very young
mazi of only few years experientie
ift a rural Section, dieplays a spirit of ret -
regression tether limn a spirit of progress-
ivenees. Mr, Gregoey es a teacher scarcely

TIMES there were fifteen applioations, mire-

we ehmelet heve a married man. Poseilsly
married man is preferable, frona many etand

Halery in town, for the support of hie

These ere, of • °pone worthy of consider-
ation ; but the paramount objeotions with
me are 10 1138 engagement of so inexperienc-
ed man and also, if I learn rightly from
current reports, the meaner in which it was
done, I was told that Mr. Gregory Tom
W338 some months ago promised the position
by some of the trustees and that he knew
ancl told others that ha was positive of
getting it. If seals be the care why did the
trustees unnecessarily expend the people's
money in advertising for applications when
they had already selected tbeir Man. Such
seems absurd. I also see that Dr. Lutz
proposed adjournment for one week, in
order to ascertain more fully the particulars
concerning the different applicante. When
there was such a number of applications to
choose from, this would have been a good
move, as then the publics feeling might have
been known and the Board, at t/ae postpon-
ed meeting governed themselves according-
ly. Dr. Lutz's motien was loot, the ap-
pointraent made, and the result is thet the
people, with few exceptions, are dissatis-
fied. I also believe that Mr. Ithlman, of
Eliniville was an applicatit; and at a sal-
ary 950 per year lower than Ur. Tom.
Now had they engaged Mr Holman they
would have rendered satisfaction, and dis-
played a spirit of economy. I sin of opin-
ion that were the two men ,balloted for by
the citizens, Mr Holman would receive
more than two.thirds of the voles. Yet
the trustees in the face of these facts are so
obstinate that they persist in their selec-
tion. The chairman, I nuderstand is Ur.
Grigg. He hat bad neither vote nor say
in the proceedings, and it would appease a
a publics desire were he to call a public
meeting, that the people might attest mote
openly, their dissent to the appointment,
as also give the trustees an opportunity to
defend their action. Thanking you Mr.
Editor for the space °coupled I am

TIZIES.-4 WAS in Hensel' the
other day, and being in a produce store
when a person was ordering and paying for
a bag of flour, I was surprised to learn fleet
or which is znanufactured in Zurich,
sold for $5 per barrel, while in Exeter we
have to pay 95.50 per barrel. There is a
nigger somewhere. Is it because Exeter
has not a roller mill, or is it because no
of the Zurich flour is sold iu Exeter? The
fiour merchants will please explain It is
poseibly owing to our not having a roller
mill in our midst. I would suggest that
action be taken in this matter at once; and
decisive action. We nnt only pa 3 excessive
prices for flour, but the money goee out of
town. tVo have endured such a state of
carelessness sufficiently long, and the time
has arrived when there mnst be a change.
