in Lucknow where he operated a
Ford dealership. He passed away
in 1921 and she resided In Wing-
ham from 1923 to 1927.
In 1927 she married Mr. Kirby
and since that time she has
resided in Teeswater. He prede-
ceased her in June of 1971.
Mrs. Kirby was an ardent
horsewoman and in 1918 was the
first woman to drive a car in
Lucknow. During her years in
Wingham, she was active in
church work and after moving to
Teeswater she was actively in-
volved in church and community
work there. She was a charter
member of the Rebekahs, a past
president of the ladies' division of
the Agricultural Society, a life
member of the United Church
Women, a choir member for 47
years, and had been recognized
by the Department of Agriculture

both of, Teeswater. She was pre-
deceased by one daughter,
Katherine Kirby, 34 years ago;
and one grandson, Randy Rene
wick, in 1973.
Paul W. Steffen
passes suddenly;
at Teeswater
The family of the late Paul
Walter Steffen -is this week
mourning his death which oc-
curred suddenly at his home in
Teeswater on Tuesday, June 18.
Mr. Steffen was in his 62nd year.
Surviving are his wife, the
former Violet Mitchell; his
mother, Mrs. Bertha Steffen of
Teeswater; six sons, Albert of
Hepworth, James at home, John
bf Culross, Ronald of Port Elgin,
Robert of Wingham and Douglas
at home; two daughters, Mrs.
Keith (Marlene) Page of Port '
Elgin and Mrs. Peter (Nancy)
Gilroy of Culross; and nine
grandchildren. Also surviving is
one sister, Mrs.. Eishert (Clara)
Irvin. He was predeceased bitwo
brothers, Walter and Arthur.
The late Mr. ' Steffen rested at
the MacPherson Funeral Chapel
Teeswater, where Rev. Arnold
Proud conducted funeral service
Friday at 2 p.m. Interment fol-
lowed' in Teeswater Cemetery. :
Pallbearers were Stan Letteau,
Earl Edgar,' Colin. Kennedy, Kell
McKague, Jim' Wilson,. and
Clayton Thompson. Jack Mc-
Kague and R. J. Armstrong
carried floral tributes.

Funeral yesterday
for Percy Gibson
Funeral service was conducted
yesterday (Wednesday) by Rev.
Robert H. Armstrong, for Percy
Gibson of 63 Maple Street,
Wingham. The service was held
at 2.p.m. at the R. A. Currie and
Son funeral home, with interment
following in Wingham Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Doug
Robinson of London, Lloyd
Saunders of Chatham, and Jack
Glousher, Ed Rich, Glen Sin-
namon and Glenn Casemore all of
this urea. -Maurice-Swanson and
Gordon Wall were flower
bearers.
Mr. Gibson passed away
Monday at Victoria Hospital,
London. Born . in Wingham on
June 4,-1908, he was a son of the
late James Gibson and Slena
Coles. He attended Wingham
Public School and worked as an
upholsterer at Fry and Blackhall
Ltd., before starting his own
business, Gibson Upholstering,
Maple Street, Wingham. He
retired in 1972.
The late Mr. Gibson was a
member of the Wingham United
Church.
Surviving are his wife, the
former Velma Kerr, whom he
married July 2, 1935, at St. An-
drew's; two sons, Douglas of
Wingham and Barry of
Ridgetown ; four grandchildren
and one sister, Mrs. Milo (Edna)
Casemore of RR 4, Wingham. He
was predeceased by one sister,
Mrs. Mae Wasp, in 1950.

C. Chamney
dies in hospital
Following an illness of 15 years,
Clarence Perdue Chamney of RR
1, Belgrave, passed away at
Wingham and District Hospital
on Monday, June 17. He was 89.
years of age.
Born and educated in East
Wawanosh Township. Mr.
Chamney was a son of the late
Joseph Chamney and Sarah
Perdue. During his early life he
was an electrician and in later
years he farmed. He was a
member of the Calvin -Brick
United Church and the Belgrave
Orange Order.
Surviving are his wife, the
former Mary Jane Johnston of
Goderich, whom he married in
Dorchester. on October 3, 1939;
two daughters, a` Mrs. ,,Claire
Rainer of 15 Maida • Vale Ave.,
Scarborough, and Mrs. John
(Sandra) McCormack of 9
Fairview Place, Orangeville;
and two grandchildren, Christie
and Eimile McCormack. Also
surviving is one sister, Mrs. Lulu
MacLaughlin of ' Waterpdrt, New
York.
The late Mr. Chamney rested
.at the S. J. Walker funeral home,
Wingham, where service was
held Thursday, June 20, at 2 p.m.
Officiating clergymen were Rev.
John Roberts and • Rev. William
John Taylor. Interment followed
in Colborne Cemetery, Goderich.
Pallbearers were Mason
Robinson, Calvin Robinson,
Barrie Walter, Donald Dow, Fred
McPherson and Ronald Coultes.
John Thompson, • Murray
Thompson, David Finnigan, Ray
Robinson, Leonard Robinson and
Neil Bieman were flower
bearers.
Belgrave resident dies in 88th year
Funeral service was held Mon-
day, June 24, at 2 p.m. for
William Robert Higgins of
Belgrave. Rev. Fred Carson
officiated and interment followed
in Brandon Cemetery, Belgrave:
The R. A. Currie and Son funeral
home, Wingham, was in charge
of arrangements.
Pallbearers were Raymond
Walker, Alvin Fitch, Lloyd War-
wick, Jack Higgins, Robert
Higgins and Ross Higgins. Floral
tributes were carried by Carol
Higgins, Michael King, Donald
Pattison and Derwin Hunt.
Mr. Higgins passed away Fri-
day, June 21, at the Wingham and
District Hospital following a brief
illness. He was in his 88th year.
Born February 19, 1887, in Turn -
berry Township, he was a son of
the late Elijah Higgins and
Frances McMichael. He received
his education at S.S. No. 6,
Turnberry, and the Wingham
High School. He farmed most of
his life, retiring in 1953.
On September 1, 1915, in
Brussels, he married the former
Margaret Lila Brydges who
survives. Also surviving are
three daughters, Mrs. Roy
(Jean) Pattison of RR 3, Wing -
ham, Margaret Higgins of
London and Mrs. Jack (Ruth)
King of Wingham; two sons,
Alvin Higgins of Wingham and
Jeremiah Higgins of Stratford;
nine grandchildren and four
great grandchildren. There are
two surviving sisters, Mrs. Effie
Fitch of Gorrie and Mrs. Gordon
Walker of Wingham; and one
brother, Gordon Higgins of
Morris Township.
The late Mr. Higgins was a
member 'of Trinity Anglican
Church, Belgrave, and the L.O.L.
No. 462, Belgrave. Services under
the auspeices of the Lodge were
held in the funeral home Sunday
evening at 9 o'clock..
