MIRROR MAIDENS '
BELMORE ,--- The Mirror
Maidens met May 13 at the Dick-
son home. After opening with the
4-11 motto, the roll call was an-
swered by 18 members. Glenda
Ballagh read the minutes of the
last meeting.
A discussion was held on the
kinds and uses of makeup, the
different types of hair, how to
care forhair and different hair
styles. Beth Mundell and Laura
Conlan demonstrated the ap-
plication of makeup on Mary
Dickson and Rosemary Kieffer.
The next meeting will be held
at the Kieffer home on May 27 at
7:30 p.m.

Murray Elston wed
in ceremony in London
On Saturday, May 11, Elmwood
Avenue Preibyterian Church,
London, was the setting for a
candle -light wedding ceremony
when Gertrude Isabel (Trudy)
McLeish, younger daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Edward A. McLeish
of London, exchanged vows with
Murray John Elston, son of Mr.
and Mrs. William J. Elston of
Wingham. Dr. D. Glenn Camp-
bell officiated. The wedding
music was played by E. Vander
Hoek.
The bride, given in marriage
by her father, was charming in a
white gown she fashioned after
her grandmother's wedding
dress. Over her wedding gown
the bride wore a full length cape,
white background With small
clusters of flowers in blue.
Attending the bride as maid of
honor was Miss Maureen Fitz -
Gerald of Toronto. Bridesmaids
were Miss Judy Ambis of Hamil-
ton and Miss Mary Ellen Elston
of Wingham, sister of the groom.
Shipman -Oakley
A quiet wedding was solemized
Friday evening May 17 by Rev.
George W. Sach between Cather-
ine B. Oakley, Guelph St. Joseph
School of Nursing and Peter E. J.
Shipman of Toronto. The bride is
the daughter of Mrs. Jack Millar
and the late ,Elvin Oakley,
Wroxeter and the groom is the
son of Mr. and Mrs. George
Shipman of Toronto. The coOple
were attended by Mrs. Jack
Millar and Mr. Harold Ridley.

of the groom. Master Roger Coy
of Oshawa, nephew of the bride,
was ring bearer.
A wedding reception was held.
at Centennial Hall, London. The
bride's mother received in a
gown of yellow chiffon printed in
pink and blue. The groom's
mother was very becoming in a
blue gown.
After a honeymoon trip to
Muskoka the bride and groom
will reside in London.
McIntosh friends
honor bride -elect
BELMORE — Friends and
neighbors of the McIntosh area
gathered in the McIntosh churc.h
basement Saturday evening for a
bridal shower in honor of Miss
Carolyn Rode.
Contests were conducted by
Mrs. Leonard Harper, Mrs.
Robert Harkness and Miss Linda
Harkness. A number of girls from
the McIntosh Church put on a '
humorous mock wedding,
Linda Harkness read the ad-
dress, following which Carolyn
opened her gifts and expressed
her thanks. Lunch was served.

Marilyn Tiffin, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Tiffin,
Wingham graduated from
Wilfrid Laurier University.
The ,gracluatIon ceremony
was held on May 19 in
Kitchener Memorial Audito-
rium.

unit of the United Church Worten
met Tuesday of last week in the
Sunday School room with, 15
ladies present.
Mrs. Stewart Procter was in
charge of the worship service
which opened with a hymn fol-
lowed by prayer. Mrs. Procter
read a poem, "Springtime in Our
Hearts", and Mrs. Earl Anderson
read the scripture taken from
Psalm 19.
The secretary and treasurer
gave their reports and visits to
the sick and shut-in were re-
ported. Offering Was then re-
ceived, followed by the singing of
another hymn.
Mrs. Cecil Coultes led the study
, which was taken from the book,
"Now is the Time".

*naAlian Cancer Society held its
May mooting recently with a
record attendance. Ed Beard,
president ()Paled. the meeting and
Miss Myrtle ,Deafis, :secretary.,
read the correspondence and the
minutes of the previous meet
Reports were then heard from
the various local committees.
Mrs. Mundell reported for ser-
vice .to patients. Dressings and
required medical supplies were
,given to Pa_tiOntS- Visits were
made and glitaand iloWers given
to bed patients. She expressed
thanks to the, society, to all Indi-
viduals, clubs, and orSanizatienti
who had donated gins and money
for the use of patients attending
,
Mrs. Lloyd Montgomery,
. transportation chairman, re-
ported tripS made to London,and
to Wingham clinic with patients.
Mrs, D. S. MacNaughton re-
ported that since January 1966,
an average of 22 clinics a year
and 656 consultations were held
at the Wingham clinic. Two
schools participated in making
posters and to prizes were
awarded, courtesy of the Lyceum
Theatre, •
Richard Campeau and Ross
Procter were cochairman and
organized the coverage of the
area. Under their leadership the
Town of Wingham and 14 rural
communities were canvassed: In
the former case, members of
Business and Professional '
Women's Club and other _volun-
teers did the canvassing.:In the
later, Women's Institute bran-
ches in tbe• following com-
munities were contacted by these
ladies and \carried out the can-
vass:

Mark 50th anniversary
GORRIE — On Sattutay, May
19, the golden wedding anni-
versary of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer J.
Farrish of Gorrie was celebrated
in the community hall when 50
members of the family and rela-
tives had supper, catered to by
the N.W. branch of the Gorrie
United Chit& Women at' 5:30
p.m
The Wide of 50 years ago was
the former Hilda Whyte of Hol-
stein and the c,puple was monied
° May 28, 1924 at Dromore. They
came to Hayrick Township in 1936
where they farmed. Mr. Fartish
. served with the Howick Council
from 1942-49 and was ROP in -
Spector from 1952,66 with the Do-
minion, Department of Agricul-
ture.

Wroxeter, and -Gary Wilfred Rybicki, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Helmut Rybicki, RR 2, Gorrie, were united in marriage on
May 4 by Rev. G. W. Sach in the Wroxeter United Church.

to see Carol Ann Wheeler, daugh-
ter of Arthur Wheeler of Wrox-
eter and Gary Wilfred Rybicki,
son of Mr, and Mrs. Helmut
Rybicki of RR 2, Gorrie united in
marriage by Rev. ° G. W. Sach in
Wroxeter United Church on May
4.
The church was decerated with
ferns and guests heard soloist
Mrs. Martin of Brussels and or-
ganist Gayle Brown,
The bride wore a floor length
gown of crystalette, styled with
empire waist with white satin
sash, trimmed with Spanish lace
and baby seed pearls, and featur-
ing a high collar. She also wore a
Juliet cap trimmed with baby
seed pearls, featuring a cathed-
ral veil edged with Spanish lace
and carried a bouquet of red and
white roses and green fern.
Matron of honor, Mrs. Myrtle
Weber of Listowel, niece of the
bride, and bridesmaids, Mrs.
Georgina Rybicki of Fordwich,
sister-in-law of the groom; Miss
Linda Rybicki, RR 2, Gorrie, sis-
ter of the groom; Miss Agnes
Cardiff of Ethel, cousin of bride;
and Miss Shelley Wilkins of
Sarnia, niece of bride, all wore
floor length halter dresses and
matching Jackets with cap
sleeves of frosted blue and white
checked polyester. They also
wore white wide brimmed hats,
trimmed with blue. ribbon and
carried nosegays of .white and
blue roses.
Miss Noreen Wintemute, niece
of the bride, was the flower girl
and wore a dress similar to the
bridal gown and carried a
nosegay of blue and white roses.
Betty Wheeler, sister of the
bride, received the guests wear-
ing a floor length gown of coral
polyester, with a corsage of white
roses, and was assisted by
mother of the groom, Mrs.
Helmut Rybicki, who was wear-
ing a floor length gown of forest -
green with multi -coloured bodice
of polyester with a corsage of
white roses.
The best man was Hans
Rybicki of Fordwieh, brother of
the groom; with ushers Bill
Wheeler of Wroxeter, brother of
the bride; Bill Schneider of
Wroxeter, John Wheeler of Wrox-
eter, brother of the bride; and
Michael Rybicki of Gorrie,
brother of the groom. The bride's
nephew, Kenneth Wheeler, was
the ringbearer.
The reception was held at the
Legion Hall, Brussels.
The couple will reside in
Gorrie.
Happy Gang
holds .meeting
The Wingham Senior Citizens
met in the council chambers on
Tueiday, May 14th with Mrs.
Olive Lewis in the chair. "The
Happy Gang': was the name de-
cided on for the group and
Margaret Hastings and Uldeen
McKenzie volunteered to ap-
plique it on the banner.
A - letter was read from the
health officer concerning regu-
lations for preparing and serving
food and the type of sink needed.
,Volunteers were asked for paint-
ing the kitchen. A report was
.given concerning the equipment
that had been purchased. Anyone
'using the drop-in centre should be
a member of the club.
The Burley bus will pick up
those going to Stratford on May
30th to the Shakespearean Festi-
val.
The lunch committee for June
will be Ethel Day, Hazel David-
son, Fred and Marjory Double -
dee, Mrs. Darby and Les For-
tune. The program committee
conducted the progressive euchre
games and lunch, was served.

and family of London spent the
Victoria Day holiday with Mrs.
William ElstOn of Minnie Street.

day supper held Saturday at

(Millie) Leader, Gorrie. There
are 19 grandchildren and three
great-grandchildren. Many were
present for the event.
An "At Home" was held from
7:30-9 and a dance 9-12 with
music by the Mann's orchestra.

ham, Mount Forest, Holstein,
Markham, Whitechurch, North
Bay and Victoria, B.C.

Russell of Listowel showed
pictures taken of animals in
Africa and also gave a com-
mentary on -her trip for the
Gorrie Senior Citizens' ."Come
Alive Club" on Wednesday eve-
ning in the town hill.
It was decided to sponsor a
minstrel show in the Ijowick
Central,School on June 4 and the
group is also planning a bus trip.
Progressive euchre was
played, followed by lunch served -
by the committee in charge.
