Kitchen

By BARBARA HARTUNG.
Q. Would you please help
mein the selection of color for
my kitchen? The tile on the
drainboard is yellow and
brown, the floor was matched
to the tile with white, yellow
and brown. But the problem is
the wallpaper on one wall that
we made a mistake on. The
colors in the wallpaper are
gray, gold and orange on a
white background. Right now,
the cabinets are painted a
light green. The walls are
• white. I was thinking of paint-
ing everything off-white. The
kitchen is long and narrow. —
M.H.
A. If you feel you made a se-
rious mistake with the wall-
paper and the green cabinets
are in good shape, it might be
easier to do over the wallpa-
per than to redo the cabinets,
which is a terrific job. You
might incorporate the yellow,
white and brown of the drain-
board and floor with the
cabinets through the `s a
yellow, brown, white and
green wallpaper.
If you made a mistake don't
feel badly. You aren't alone.
Professional interior design-
ers do, too. However, if you
are set on painting the cabi-

low or a gold might be poesi-
bilities to add a little more
color. In addition, you might
think about putting a glaze
over the base. color. This is an
interesting decorating trick.
For example, say you painted
the cabinets white, you might
put a gold glaze over it to tone
down the harshness of the
white and tie into your color
scheme.
Q. I have what must be the
most uninteresting window in
existence. It is in my entry
and looks out on the street. I
would like to have complete
privacy at some times and
. some light at others. It is 36
inches wide and 52 inches tall
and is 24 inches off the floor.
Please suggest some decora-
tive way of treating the win-
dow. I am riot fond of tradi-
tional draperies. I would like
to set the tone for my eclectic
apartment that is both,con-
temporary and traditional. —
T. M.
A. One very decorative way
is to build a lambrequin or
frame to go around the win-
dow. It might be 8 inches wide
on the sides and 8 to 12 inches
deep at the top. You could
make it rectangular like a
frame or angle it, however'
seems pleasing. Cover it with
a fabric because fabric is
easiest to stretch around cor-
ners and staple or glue. Place
a chest in front of it to fill in
the space from the sill to floor.
Inside the frame do a fabric
laminated window shade of a
contrasting pattern. For ex-
ample, you might use a shin,*
red vinyl trimmed in black
braid for the frame, combin-
ing it with a dramatic black
and white.,print laminated on
the shade.''yyour choice of fab-
rics and chest will control
whether you have a tradition-
al or contemporary look or
both.

CARTON CREATION — EggY animals can be created out of the cartoons which originally
contained "hen fruit."
CHILD'S PLAY
Egg carton creates rabbit
By BUROKER &
HUNTSINGER
Here's a before -or -after
Easter project that is' fun to
make and can give "equal
time," as the saying goes, to
other members of the animal
kingdom.
No one knows for sure,
actually, just how rabbits got
involved hi the season's fes-
tivities in the first place. Cer-
tainly, in real life, they do not
produce or deliver eggs. How-
ever, Easter proved to be a
spring holiday, a season when
baby lambb, chicks and, bun=
nies were abundant, and so
the symbol somehow evolved.
Regardless of how they
were delivered, chances are
there's lots of eggs around
your house for the traditional
dipping and hiding. So it
should be easy to oi*tain an
empty cardboard egg carton.
Cut this into sections which
will provide you with twelve
cups. Use one cup or section
for an animal's body. Where it
has been separated at the bot-
tom, cut an additional amount
from the center so that ; two
\'paws can result. This forms
the beginning for a squatting
Qldtten.
To make the head, cut a
second section so the bottom
of the cup becomes the neck

gourmet flair to meal
By SUSAN DELIGHT
Chicken continues to n f r
one of the best meat buys.
This most versatile of meats
combines deliciously with a
variety of flavorings and in-
gredients. It is one of the easi-
est, too, for giving a gourmet
flair to company meals.
A headliner for any special
event can be Crusty Baked
Chicken which gets its exotic
flavor from marinating in
Worcestershire sauce. It is
dipped in an egg mixture be-
fore being baked to a crusty
goodness.
