But' this production was different, for . it' was being ' taped live for the CBC Television network for presentation during its 1974-75 season. This, is the first time that net- work cameras have entered the Festival Theatre for televising of a production in its original 'set- ting. Live audiences were in the theatre for the performances on both days. Previously, Stratford productions have been taken to Toronto's television studios for taping; one such show you may remember was "The Three Musketeers" in 1969. With the exception of one actor (Powys Thomas could not be in Stratford for the taping so was .replaced by William Needles), the cast remained as it was last summer. The stars are Pat Gal- loway, Nicholas Pennell, Patricia Collins, Amelia Hall, Barry Mac- Gregor and Alan Scarfe. The entire production is under the guiding hand of that genius who provides Canada with her finest television `variety enter- tainment, Norman Campbell. Michael Bawtree who directed the original stage production of the play, is associate director at the Stratford Festival. Though much of Campbell's work has been produced in tele- vision studios, this type of thing is not new to hint. He taped last year's production of "The Sleep- ing Beauty" before , a live au- dience in Toronto's O'Keefe Centre. He won the 1973 Emmy Award for ,that,: more evidence that he alwayslnows what he's doing and . always does the best. Hopefully, 4130 will. send ad- vance publicity on when' "She Stoops, to Conquer" will be shown; if you missed it on are stage, by all means catch this version. It is a fine piece df work. 0 0 .0 ' Happy Anniversary to Harvey Kirck who is this year celebrat- ing his 25th year in broadcasting • and his tenth anniversary on the CTV National News. He.began his work as a news announcer in 1948 in Sault Ste. Marie, worked with CHUM in Toronto for -some years and entered the television med- ium in 1960 with CHCH in Hamil- ton. In 1963 he joined the CTV networlr'with the National News, 97at that time being prpduced in Ottawa. Three years later, he and the National returned to Toronto where he has been ever since. Kirck, after 25 years in the bus- iness, still tells the news like it is. Though he may not beaspleasing "to watch as the - CBC's Lloyd Robertson, he is always com- pletely unruffled and totally un- involved in the stories he'reports. I suppose after 25 years, very little is new or different to him Nearly everyone in Canada knows Wayne and Shuster that is Johnny Wayne and Frank Shuster (left to right) Canada's favorite comedy team, who will be seen In two more Sunday night specials this season on CBC television -- Febi'uary 24 and April 28.
