BE CRAFTY
Bun warmer made
from leftover bits
By ALICE MORRELL
Our energy crisis may be a
,,Messing in disguise. We have
been wasteful and I believe .it
is probably time we stopped
throwing away those bits and
pieces. Let's see what we can
do with them,
This column will show you
how to make a bun warmer
from scraps of leftover mate-
rial. 1 enjoy sewing by hand
and small projects like these
are easy to carry and sew on
while I attend meetings and
lectures.
To begin, make a paper pat-
tern.
attern. Cut a large circle 141/2
inches in diameter. Divide the
circle into six equal pie -
shaped sections (Fig. 1) . To
do this, measure from the
exact center to the edge 71,4
inches. Now make a dot on the
edge and measure from this
dot across from edge to edge
VA inches, then make a dot.
Do this six times, then draw
three diameter lines across
the pattern by matching oppo-
site dots.
Now, using the same center
point, draw a smaller circle
inside the large one using a
radius of one inch. Now erase
all lines inside the smaller,
circle; the remaining lines 61
inches in length are your sew-
ingiine guides (Fig. 2).
Using the pattern, cut three
circles of material (cotton,
linen, felt) almost anything
washable, except knits, is sat-
isfactory. Mark sewing guide
lines with tailor tacks or sew-
ing carbon.
Now, to finish raw edge,
sew with bias fold tape of con-
trasting color or roll edges. I
like rolled edges myself.
When all edges are finished,
lay two circles together one
over the other and sew by
hand small stitches on the
lines drawn.
You now have six little pie -
shaped pockets. Place the
third circle of material on top
of the two in such a manner
that the sewing lines lie half-
way between the original sew-
ing (Fig. 3). Sew this piece
only to the center piece. Sew

along the six lines, you now
have six more little packets.
At this point attach two lit-
tle snaps to the outer edge of
the top piece midway between
two of the seam lines. Attach
a back snap at the outer edge
center of the third wedge on
either side (Fig. 2). This
equally places the snaps one-
third of the way around the
circle. You may wish to sew a
small loop in place of the
snaps, add two small ribbons
F;e4
in place of the back snaps, and
tie in a bow through the loop
(Fig. 2).
When in use fluff out the
pockets and fill the pockets
with hot buns or rolls. It really
helps to keep them warm.
When not in use unsnap and
store flat (Fig. 4).'
These make lovely bazaar
items and are especially nice
made of felt; burlap -or Indian
head.
Experunent and have fun.

EXPANDED SERVICE
TO FARMERS
IN NORTH HURON
Earl Long, Harry Winters,
"Jack Van Bussel and Herb
VerBeek, proprietors of Huron
Tractor Ltd., are Pleased to an-
nounce the official opening of
their brand new John • Deere
Service Centre in Blyth, the first
of its kind in Ontario. They and
their staff extend a cordial wel-
come' to all to come and visit
them at their new -facility in Blyth
to see first hand the many ways
they are prepared to service the
farmers of north Huron and area.
Earl Long, manager of 'the
Servi a Centre, said, 'Over the
years we havealways sold equip-
.ment,in .the area but only in the
past couple of .years has the
equipment population increased
to a point Where it became viable
for us to invest in a Service Cen-
tre.
"Also many farmers wishing to
pirchase John Deere equipment
in thepast, have hesitated due'to
the distance from their farms to
Exeter.
"This Service Centre concept is
nothing new even though this is
the first of its kind here in On-
tario," said Earl Long. "There
are many of them in the United
States and atjeast eight in West-
ern Canada.
"The Service Centre will 'be
operated much like a regular
dealership in so much as sales,
papts," and shop service are con-
cetned. The only difference is
that we will not be maintaining
11an outside inventory and display
of new and used equipment: We
will have a Parts Manager and
initially two servicemen.
"Sales will continue to be han-
dled out of our Exeter location,
but once you have purchased
John Deere equipment from us,
service will be provided at the
more convenient location—de-
pending on whether you are
closer to Exeter or Blyth.
"We at Huron Tractor Ltd. look
forward to providing you with
even better service in the future,
and if you are contemplating new
or used equipment, we urge you
to consider the fact that service
will no be available to you at
two locations."
