when owing to some noise caused by the
cramping of the buggy the horses became
unmanageable and in crossing-' Wellington
street bridge, Miss Wilson either'fell or
jumped frorn'the rig. sustaining injuries
which have left .her unconscious, and
which the dontors think will rove fatal:
furious rate down Wellington to the
stone quarries where they crossedto Water
street and ran on for about two miles and
at length Caine to a stand still in Emmons
livery stable where they belonged.
Strange to say none of the party with the
exception of Miss Wilson,' were seriously
injured, though all but two either jumped
or were thrown from the rig.
All people who visit the beautiful town
of St. Marys, are struck with ad
miration upon beholding the innumerable
improvements that have taken place with-
iu the lasts year ; and we are pleased to
tell of the many acts of enterprise which
are on the eve of being developed into
reality. The merchants of queen-st. have
baker cff the old-time appearances and
customs and have adopted the newer
anodes of attracting and trausactdng busi.
ness. The majority of the store fronts' are
of plate glass while within are tastily
arranged, assortments of goods from the
best markets ; and one merchant vies
with another as to whom shall have the
most pleasing array. The town at the
present time, with its forestic robe, has a
romantic and inviting appearance,` the: sit-
uation, to a goodly extent, lending ro-
mance to the scene. The beauty is strik-
ing , and to be practical, so are. the bad
side, walks. A straight, level and safe
piece of side -walk is a luxury] here ; but
it, is said the Road and Bridge 'committee
is contemplating arrangements for an fin.
proved side -walk system. The town has
now a population of almost 5,000, the
recent location of the Maxwell . works
causing an increase of several hundred
persons. Houses are scarce in St. Marys
and rent readily for from $l0 to ,25 per
month, The Maxwell works is quite an
institution and give employment to 160
men and boys. Upwards of 1,500 Binders
bare been turned ont of this manufaofory,.
this season, and the• ratepayers say' that,
although their taxes have boon ftteleaseil
to about two cents on the tioll+u , they
believe that the town' has been doubly
benefit ed. Looking at the beautiful ;and
