fined area of Champagne,
Dance, should err y ,the title,
but, almost worldwide,
sparkling wues evoke the
magic Ltli ol1: Champagne.
The United States produces
some quite gaud champagne;
those from California are
made more on the French
method and generally "drier"
than the hu 'o '* ly from New
York state or Michigan. Al-
though not too well own
here, publicized or easy to ob-
tain, the "sparkling" wines of
Germany .and Spain are often
.excellent and seldom more
than $7 or $8 per fifth.
One perennial popular Cole
Porter song has a line: `'I get
no kick from champagne."
Great for lyrics, but the
bubbly has 12 per cent alcohol
content which is equivalent to
24 proof.
Champagne has less calo-
ries than hard liquor. There
are 30 calories per ounce in a
brut (dry) champagne. This
means 750 per bottle. There
are about 125 calories per
ounce in 86 proof liquor, but in
wipe the body only assimi-
lates about half of the calo-
ries, whereas in whiskey the
body absorbs almost all the
calories.
An expensive drink? It can
be, ° depending on how much
one 'drinks and how often. It
can also be one of the least
costly, fun -and -sun -filled, al-
coholic beverages.
Fine ' champagne can be
purchased throughout._ the
United States from about 14
on upward per fifth bottle.
And, although a higher price
will ordinarily guarantee
finer grapes, it by no means
denotes that you, the buyer,
will find the bubbles better
and bigger — and more enjoy-
able.

Chicken a la kind
is hit with ladies
By SUSAN DELIGHT
Presentation can make or
break a dish. No matter how
tasty a dish, it if is si+pppily
served and offends theiye, it
will not make a hit with the
partaker.
A sure-fire hit for a ladies'
luncheonis a version of the
long-time staple, chicken a la
king. Molded Chicken a la
King, its surface flecked with
the bright red of pimiento and
the fresh green of parsley and
chives, is an eye -tempting
creation. • ie.
Cottage cheese and cream
of mushroom soup contribute
to its creamy consistency and
chopped celery adds a bit of
contrasting texture. It can be
accompanied by asparagus
spears or tiny green peas and
a basket of hot bread.
Super Stroganoff Casserole,
served in individual casse-
roles, is an impressive entree
for a dinner or supper party.

vegetables- are flavor -ac-
