Mrs. C: Campbell speaker
for St. Andrew's WMS
The Home Helpers' meeting of
the Women's Missionary Society
of St. Andrew's .Presbyterian
'Church was held on Tuesday,
July 3, with Mrs. J. Burchill, Mrs.
J. Currie and Mrs. J. McKague as
convenors.
The president, Mrs. Robert
Armstrong, opened the meeting
with prayer. The minutes of the
previous meeting were read by
the secretary, Mrs. Gordon Wall.
This was followed by the roll call
which recorded 63 visits made by
the members. The treasurer's re-
port was given by Miss Verna
McLaughlin. During the business
period final arrangements were
made for the acceptance of an in-
vitation to join with the Presby-
terian Women's Missionary So-
ciety at Lucknow on July 4, and
for the conducting of the Sunday
service on August 12 which is in
charge of the WMS and Goforth
Auxiliary.
The devotional reading from
Psalm 55 and the meditation
based thereon were Igiven by Mrs.
Jack McKague. "Cast thy burden
upon the Lord and He shall sus-
tain thee" was the special mes-
sage. "Have no anxiety about
anything. Go to God trusting and
believing that He can answer our
greatest need and care. God pro-
vides the answer." Miss Leah
Currie led the meeting in prayer.
On behalf of the Women's; Mis-
sionary Society the presentation
of a life membership certificate
was made to Mrs. Alkin Hastings
by Mrs. Jack McKague. The
offering was received and Mrs.
Victor Young gave the offertory
prayer.
Mrs. Tom Currie introduced
the guest speaker, Mrs. Colin
Campbell, who is a graduate of,
the University of Western On-
tario, and a member of the teach-
ing staff of F. E. Madill Sec-
ondary School. Mrs. Campbell
showed very interesting colored
pictures taken on a visit \t o India
in the summer of 1972. Her ex-
planations and commentary were
very informative, providing
many details on the areas trav-
elled, and giving- an insight into
the variety of life and occupa-
tions as they traversed the region
from New Delhi to Agra, a dis-
tance of 125 miles and later from
New Delhi to Kashmir. Pictures
showing contrasts of eountry and
homes, contrasts of . people, rich
and poor, contrasts of weather
conditions, contrasts of working
conditions and workers, beasts of
burden and other animals pro-
vided a greater knowledge of that
country with its large number of ,'
inhabitants.
Many kinds of buildings were
shown including those -of high
commissions and embassies. The
exterior and interior views of the
Taj Mahal, a monument built for
love, showed a beautiful tomb of
marble. •
Kashmir is a north r province
being fought over by Pakistan
and India. Members were given
views of the Himalayas, rice pad-
dies, houseboats, and the people
who are mostly Moslems.
Mrs. Campbell was thanked by
Miss McLaughlin who presented
her with a gift.
The meeting was closed with
prayer offered by Mrs. H. Aitehid
son, A seeial hour was enjoyed
wit1i i being served by the
committee.
