industrial plants of Wirigharn was

Tavern and Restaurant.
Sponsored by the Industrial
Accident Prevention Association,
purpose of the meeting was too

the need of continued and im-
proved safety practices.
Austin Bettridge, safety con-
sultant, I.A.P.A.,•with assistance
from a colleague, conducted the
meeting and with the use of
charts depicted howr lost time due
to accidents could affect both em-
ployee and the plant generally.
In addition to dealing- with the
loss of production, Mr. Bettridge
pointed out that time off work had
a detrimental�,affect 'on workers
exclusive of any pain or discom-
fort resulting • from . injury at
work.
He outlined also the procedure
concerning the importance of re-
porting immediately any injury
and .how benefits from the Work-
men's Compensation Board
would apply.
Attending Thursdays meeting
were several "from each of Wing-
'ham's, major plants, • Electro-
. home Lloyd -Truax, Western
Foundry. and Stanley Door sys-
tems, many of whom were de-
• -apartment foremen.
The Salvatio5n Army's Red
Shield appeal is just $1,200 short
of its bbjective. In the second
week of the campaign, the
amount realized to;date is about
$5,000 while the objective is
$6,232.
Captain Cameron of the local
corps says that the campaign is
going about the same arlast year
and hopes they' will reach their
objective by the end of the week.

•The Wingham detachment of
the provincial police investigated
four incidents under the Liquor ,
Control Act and laid . four
charges. They also laid five
charges under the Highway
Traffic Act and issued five warn-
ings. There were 31 criminal
investigations throughout the
week.
