After showing films and speak- ing on drug abuse in October he noted that the students lack knowledge on drugs, venereal diseases, nutrition and birth con- trol. • He suggested that health edu- cation be offered as an option, separate from physical educa- tion. It could be given as a co-or- dinated course. He said all the students should be exposed to an easily prepared, easily delivered, sensible program of health edu- cation. As well, Dr. Mills said there is a need for teachers inter- ested in taking courses to provide the health program for the stu- dents. The board endorsed a resolu- tion from the Lambton County Board of Education and the Lambton Separate School Board which will be presented to the Ontario Separate School Trus- tees' Association convention in April. Some of the 'areas of con- cern in the resolution are: That it should be illegal for children to be made to stand on school buses; that school bus flashing lights Should be used in all speed zones; •that all school bus drivers be Skilled in the operation of fire protection equipment; should have a knowledge of first aid; and be trained in procedure to be followed if bus ,is stranded in a Severe storm • the education system. Mr. Hicknell also reported on an Ontario Traffic ,Conference in Toronto which he attended on March 1-3. Among some ° of the things he learned was that there are twice as many accidents in- volving school fuses than any other bus, even though school buses 'are on the road for, less. time. The general feeling of the panel, he said, was that bus -driv- ers are not experienced enough. Mr. Hicknell spoke of two ways su gested` i for sc coo cr Ssinn pr 'ter oh =adul '.1/10'01-; or trained marked student guards. John Vintar said the four reso- lutions submitted by the board to the Ontario Separate School • Trustees Association annual con- ference to be held in April in `To- rontto were accepted and referred to the assessment committee. Resolutions The first resolution .asks that the act respecting municipal elections be amended to extend the period ofor completion of the work of enumeration or that the number of enumerators be in- creased to adequately contact all resident property owners and . tenants within the time period, and that the 'fee structure for enumerators be revised to an hourly rate plus travelling allow- ance, rather than.,zpresent name basis rate which encourages a hasty if not unsatisfactory com- pletion of work. The second resolution calls for the last day for filing complaints on the preliminary list of electors is to be fixed as the day which is four weeks prior to the day of the election.
