Wit Meeting of
NIFTY 'NITS •
LAKELET -- The first meeting
of the Nifty 'nits was held March
16 at the home of Mrs. Lyle
Murray: Thee mother of each
member was present at this
meeting.
The 4.11 pledge was followed by
the election of officers:
.president, Judith .Anne Murray;
vice president, Rosemary David;
secretary, rotating .and press
reporter, Ellen Murray:,
Everyone, eight in all, an-
swered the roll call by,, filling in
the information on the
registration form. Lome green
was decided on as the color for
the record book covers. The next
meeting will be held at the home
of Lynn Crowe on March 26 at
4:30 p.m.
The demonstration by Mrs.
Murray was on sewing box .con
tents. The discussion. was on
types of knits and choosing the
pattern and fabric.
Susan Angst, Bonnie Case-
iore, Karen Dickert and Ellen
Murray took part in the group
work which was taking measure-
ments. Each girl then wrote her
notes.
KNIFTY KNITS
The first meeting Of Gorrie No.
3 4-H Club was held March 12 at
the home of Mrs; Ralph Lee with
eight members present. Mrs. Lee
and Mrs. Everitt Zurbrigg are
the leaders.

Mrs. Lee led the discussion on
weft and warp knits. Measure-
ments were taken and recorded.
The second meeting held on
Mardi 17was held at the same
home. The name chosen for the
club was "Knifty Knits".
The different knit fabrics were
discussed on samples the girls
brought from home. They also re-
viewed the proper way of making
necessary alterations before
cutting. Patterns were checked
for alterations and layouts
started.

at WI meet
A large gathering of members
of the Women's Institute and sur-
rounding district institutes at-
tended a meeting in the audi-
torium of the town hall on Thurs-
day, March 15 at 2:30 p.m. Mrs.
W. Elston, president, opened the
meeting with the ode, ac-
companied by Mrs. N. Keating at
the piano.
The Mary Stewart collect was
read in unison. Mrs. Charles
Shiell, secretary read the min-
utes including thank -you cards
from the Golden Circle School
and Brookhaven Nursing Home
for apples received from the
Institute on Valentine's Day as
treats. The slate of officers were
read for the coming year.
Mayor DeWitt Miller welcomed
the guest and Mrs. D. S. Mac -
,Naughton introduced the guest
speaker, Donald Grant of Lon-
don, who gave a splendid address
on cancer as March is Cancer
month.
Mr. Richards of Clinton also
spoke briefly. Following the pro-
gram, Clark Johnston sang Irish
songs accompanied by Mrs. Nor-
man Coultes of Belgrave and
community singing was led by
Mrs. William Coultes. After "God
Save the Queen", all ladies re-
turned to the council chambers,
where a delicious lunch was
served by hostesses, Mrs. R.
Powell, Mrs. IL Brooks, Mrs. W.
Lockwood, ana Mrs. C. Jones.
—Mr. and Mrs. Larry Mc-
Donald moved this week to their
home in the country.
—Fred McGee leaves soon to
participate in, a course in small
engine repair and maintenance.
The course will be held at the
John Deere factory in Hamilton.

are exchanged at Ethel
Beverly Ann Speiran of Kitch-
ener and. Robert Paul Sangster,
RR 1, Wingham, exchanged mar-
riage vows on March 2, in Ethel
United Church at 7 p.m. The
church was decorated with ar-
rangements of yellow shasta
mums and green candles in green
candelabra for the double -ring
ceremony. Rev. Eric LeDrew of
Brussels officiated at the cere-
mony.
The bride is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Bruce Speiran of Ethel.
The groom is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Robert Sangster, RR 1,
Wingham.
The organist Donald Dunbar of
Ethel accompanied the soloist
Miss Ann Dietrich, RR 3, Listo-
wel, who sang "For All We
Know" and "We've Only Just Be-
gun".
The bride wore a full-length
gown of candlelight organza. Re -
embroidered lace panels ac-
cented the bodice, skirt and full
bishop sleeves. Matching lace
truffles edged the slender cuffs
and hemline. White silk ribbon
trimmed the waist with matching
bow and long streamers. Her

Miss Brenda Speiran of Ethel,
sister of the, bride, was maid of
honor. She wore a floor -length
gown of green and, white lace net
trimmed with black velvet ribbon
on stand-up collar and waist
trimmed with matching bow and
.streamers. Her floppy hat was
trimmed with black velvet rib-
bon. She carried a bouquet of yel-
low shasta mums with ivy.
The bridesmaids were Miss
Marie Lake of Kitchener and
Miss Brenda Smith also of Kitch-
ener. Their gowns and ensembles
were identical to that of the maid
of honor. They carried bouquets
of yellow shasta mums with ivy.
Kenneth Johnstone of Lucknow
was best man. The ushers in
chided Leonard Sangster, RR 1
Wingham, brother of the groom
and Kirk Speiran of Ethel
brother of the bride.
The wedding reception was
held in the lima Memorial Com
munity Centre, Atwood. The
bride's mother wore a peacock
blue lace over chiffon trimme
with organza floor -length gown
with silver accessories. She wore
a red Sweetheart rose corsage

at the home of Mrs. B. Nay. The
following officers were returned
to office: President, Mrs. Robert
Strong; treasurer, Mrs. Davey
Edgar; secretary, Mrs. B. Nay;
loan cupboard, I. Haskins; swim-
ming committee, L. Johnston, R.
Carson and G. Moir.
It was decided to add a new
walker to the loan cupboard, as
the demand has been heavy for
these walkers in the past year. It
was noted that the supply cup-
board has been in great demand
this year, . as this material is
available for the whole of Howick
Township.
Discussion was held as to the
best means of holding the yearly
canvass, since nine per cent of
the quota was all that was met
last year. A one-night blitz was
planned for March 28 if can-
vassers can be found to 'canvass
the Villages of Wroxeter, Gorrie
and Fordwich, and surrounding
area. It is hoped that the commu-
nity will stand behind this worthy
cause 100 per cent,
Gorrie and district quota for
1973 is $500.
