to send to Mrs. Alice Aitken who
is still a patient in Wingham and
District Hospital.
A metal filing cabinet . was
presented to the Institute by Mrs.
Mathers, in which to keep the
records. The annual meeting in
April will be held in the United
Church Sunday school looms and
will begin with a pot -luck dinner.
Conveners of the standing
committees were asked to have
their reports ready and the
nominating committee was asked
- to bring in a slate of .officers.

were in charge of the meeting,

BLUEVALE - The Turnberry
Ladies' Aid group of the Pres-
byterian Church held its March
tneeting, Tuesday of last week at
the home of Mrs. Glenn MC-
Kercher.
Mrs. Jack Willitts, president,
opened the"meeting by reading
from Proverbs. Mrs. Glenn Snell
read the minutes of the last
meeting and gave the treasurer's
report. Six ladies spent the after-
noon :quilting. '
The next meeting will be held in
May at the home of Mrs, Joe

meeting at the home. of Mrs.
Mary. 'Templeman. Scripture
reading and a meditation were
given by Margaret .Sach.
Officer's were elected and the
group decided on the name, "The
Fifth Addition". President is

Margaret Such; secretary, Bar-
bara Thornton; treasurer, Jane
Heipel; secretary -treasurer,
Donna Latronico. Leta Stirling is

troduced the guest speaker, Mrs.
Roy Sanderson who told ,About
her gardening and caring for
flowers. She was thanked by Mrs.
Harry Elliott and presented with
a gift.
Lunch was served by the
hostess, assisted by Mrs. William
De Vos, Mrs. Alex MacTavish
and Mrs. Cecil Sanderson.

UCW meeting
DONNYBROOK — The March
meeting of the United Church
Women was held Wednesday
evening at the home of Mrs. Hil-
liard Jefferson with a good at-
tendance. Mrs. Ernest Snowden
and Mrs. Margaret Leddy were
in charge and opened the meeting
with the hymn "Take Time to Be
Holy". Mrs. Snowden led in
prayer. Psalm 714 was read in
unison.
The topic was on India and
Mrs. Leddy read interesting
extracts from letters which Mrs.
Hugh Jeffersonhad written of
India where she and her husband
are living at the present time.
Mrs. Wesley Jefferson con-
ducted the business. The Auburn
UCW is sponsoring a fashion
show in the Auburn community
hall on March 28th. Mrs, Stuart
Chamney read the minutes and
the offering was received: "In the
Cross of Christ I .Glory", was
sung and Mrs. Snowden closed
the meeting with the benediction.
Miss Sharron Jefferson then
Showed pictures taken on her
holiday trips to England, Nor-
way, Sweden, Denmark, Holland,,
Germany, Italy and Switzerland
which .everyone . enioyed. Mrs.
Snowden thanked her and lunch
was served by the hostess

—Mrs. Roesmary Herd Yed-
demi and Mrs. Susan Gale, who
are both on the staff of St.
Joseph's Hospital, London, visit-
ed Wingham one day last week to
help celebrate Harold Herd's
birthday. The girls brought with
them a lovely birthday cake with
the traditional candles.
—Mr. and Mrs. Jim Mitchinson
of Niagara Falls spent the week-
end with Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd
Montgomery. They also visited
her mother, Mrs. McMichael, at
Brookhaven Nursing Home.

Speaker describes services of VON
• The March meeting of the
Wingham Kinettes was held Mon-
day at Lee's Tavern with 14
membersand two guests present.
President Mrs. Alex Strong
introduced the guests, Mrs.
Howard Lancaster and Miss
Margaret Wood, who are the
local staff members of Victorian
Order of Nurses. Miss Wood
stressed the fact that the VON
..wants to make more people
aware of the services in this re-
gion. She said that theyfeel it
majority of the patients in hos-
pital could convalesce as well at
home with their are and the
patient would be more content.
This year the VON is celebrating
its 75th anniversary as an estab-
lished order in Canada:

Irish program for
senior citizens
The Wingham Senior Citizens
met in the council chambers on.
Tuesday evening of last week.
The meeting opened in the 'usual
manner. wjth.. "Thel Lord's
Prayer", "The Queen" and\ the
"Theme Song", and the minutes
of the previous meeting.
It was decided to sponsor a bus
to attend the Stratford festival on
May 28 to see "The Taming of the
Shrew", if tickets could be ob-
tained.
Miss Ann Wilson and Mrs.
-Mary Armstrong were appointed
to send for tickets at 'the reduced
price. •
A letter was read urging citi-
zens to contact their representa-
tive at parliament about the
urgent need for improved trans-
portation in this area. R. Mac-
Kersie and Mrs. Olive Lewis
were named to write the letter.
Members of the committee re -
thanked the guests.
The president read the corres-
tondence, including a letter from
the recreation department, ask-
ing the group's opinion as to
whether the . Kinsmen wading
pool should be continued. They
were informed it would cost
approximately, $1,500 to meet the
public health standards. After a
discussion it was decided to

Lavonne Ballagh, in Irish cos-
tume, sang softie Irish songs,
"The Same Old Shillelagh" and
"Dear Old Donegal" with Mrs.
Cora Robertson as accompanist.
Everyone joined in the sing -song
led . by Miss Ballagh with Mrs.
Walker at the piano.
The happy evening closed with
lunch and a social chat.

9th marriage at 7:30 in the

Thelma Purdon, daughter of Mrs.
John Pardon of Listowel. Parents
of the groom are Mr. and Mrs.

Art Wells of Lloydminster, Sask.

Wingham Legion Hall where
guests were received by mothers
of the bridal couple. The bride's
mother wore a long turquoise
blue chiffon dress with a corsage
of pink carnations. The groom's
mother chose a floorLlength
flowered dress with a corsage of
white carnations.
For travelling, the bride wore a
blue velvet jacket with white
satin trim and matching white
satin baggies with blue velvet
cuffs.

Stacey, Wyoming; Mr. and Mrs.

try to keep it functioning if the
public requires this facility.
Mrs. William Hanula asked for
volunteers to visit the Brook-
haven residents this month and
asked them to take their children
to help entertain their friends at
Brookhaven.
