Wingham Colts win at
Harriston tournament
Wingham PeeWee Colts won
the Class "A" championship in
the Harriston Hockey Camp
tournament Saturday, beating
Harriston, Walkerton and their
old rivals from Kincardine to
take it all.
The sweet victory came in the
midst of a highly -successful six -
game weekend in which they won
everything from an exhibition
game against Owen Sound "A"
team here Friday, three tourna-
, ment games Saturday, a win at
Durham Sunday and carried
their unbeaten string 0.25 games
in, Arthur Monday.
. The tournament at Harriston
went like this:
Class `A' Champlontihip
' Game 1: Wingham 4, Harriston
1. Harriston k scored the game's
first goal but Wingham had tied
the game before the end of the
first, period on a. goal by Mont-
gomery from ,MacLaurin. The
second period was scoreless, but
in th third the Colts.scprethree
unaawered.goals, by MacLaurin
unassisted, Watson from Mac-
Laurin and Billy Broome
unassisted. .
. Genie Wingham 6, Walker -
ten 2. Once 'again Wingham fell
behind their Opponents 2-0 within
minutes of the start of the game.
But, by the end of the first, they
had tied the game on goals by
Kinahan unassisted and Mont-
gomery from Watson. The Colts
then scored two in each of the last
two periods. They went to Mac -
°Laurin from Kinahan, Watson
unassisted, MacLaurin from
Montgomery and Kinahan
unassisted.
• Game 3: Championship game—
Wingham 5, Kincardine 4. Both
Wingham and their oldrivals
from Kincardine, made it to the
championship game on two pre-
vious wins in the tournament. As
usual° when these two teams
meet, it was an exciting, hard-
fought but clean game.
It was a seesaw battle, Kincar-
dine taking the lead in the first. In
the second the Colts got two and
Kincardine one, ending the
second at 2-2.
In the last period Wingham out-
scored their opponents 3-2. Wing -
ham goal scorers were Sheldon
Jones and Jay MacLaurin with
two each and Murray Watson
with the other. Kincardine goalie
Tom Cameron was a busy boy in
the Wingham game and was
awarded the tournament's MVP
Award.

HIGH
However Wingham had several
boys in the running for that
award and they should be
mentioned for their outstanding
play in the tournament. They are
Jay MhcLaurin, Gordon Kina-
han, Murray Watson and Goalie

The Rascals are in first place
with 73 points; the Meeses have
64. In third place are the BC's

Bantams
The Plutos have a comfortable
ten -point lead in the Bantam
standings; they have 69 points.
The going gets interesting after
that, with the Bunnies and
Popeyes tied at 59 and the Lulus
at 58. The Caspers have 49 and
the Yogis 37.
Brenda MacLennan rolled
girls' high single of 200 and high
double of 281. Ricky MacLennan
had two good games of 186 and
167 to give him high single and
high double of 353. Paul Gerson
had a good 179 game.
Juniors
For the Juniors it was Pam
Gerrie*and Jamie Smith; Pam's
highs were a 163 single ana a 321
double and .faitiiehad a 200 single .
and 267 double. Jamie's was the
only wile ever 15
The %Ids are still out in front
but *toed still at points. The

Stones are still one point ahead of
the Osmonds; they stand now at
63 and 62. The BeeGees have 56;,
Hollies 46; Doors 31.
Seniors
John Bushell rolled the 220 high
single and the 551 high triple for
the seniors.
The TiCats are way out in front
with 87 points. The Argos have
71; Kedapaji 65 and the Cane 43.
Four Steps to Stardom
Provincial Championship
A bus will be at the Wingham
Lanes Saturday, March 10, at
11:45 a.m. to pick tip the Wing -
ham zone champs, the Bantam
boys. The team is comprised of
Bill Ohm, Ricky MacLennan,
Sheldon Jones, John Bennett and
Jamie Smith and with their
coach, Mrs. Storey. They will go
to Scarborough to compete in the
provincial championships in the
Four Steps to Stardom tourna-
ment.
They will be billeted Saturday
night and 'will bowl at Aprile
Lanes, Scarborough, on Sunday
at 11 a.m. We wish them best of
luck and know they will give their
best to the competition.
Thirty-six Bantam, Junior and
Senior girls and boys from this
Bluewater Zone, will travel to To-
ronto onithis bus. On Sunday eve-
ning the will attend a banquet
with more than 700junior bowlers
from Ontario.
Winners in Scarborough will
advance to Saskatoon in April.

The Model A's are in first place
with 85 points; the Comets are
second with 78. The Laurentians
are third with 73 followed by the
Tin Lizzies with 68.
Norma Strong rolled the 237
high single; runner-up was
Janette Rodgers' 219. Janette
Rodgers had the 612 high triple
and her runner-up was Lila
Hickey with 582.

SENIOR LADIES
The Wild Roses are in first
place/with 72 points and the For-
get-Me-Nots are second with 63.
The Buttercups have 40 ,and the
Bluebells 25.
Jean Crump rolled the 196 high
single but Amy Edwards' 194 was
close behind. Mrs. Edwards took
high double honors with her 347.
Colts scored a hard-fought 5-1 win
over Owen Sound's `A' team,
Wingham took the lead in the
first period on goals by Sheldon
Jones from Gordon Kinahan and
Mike Montgomery from Jay
MacLaurin and Gordon Kinahan.
The second period was scoreless.
However, in the third, • Owen.
Sound got one from Todd Mc-
Gauley, before, Wingham replied
with three more, They went to ,
Jay MacLaurin from Mike Mont-
gomery and Murray Watson,
Kinahan unassisted, and David
Kieffer from Doug McGregor.
The Owen Sound team picked
up 12 of the 17 penalties handed
out by the referees.
Wingham travelled to Durham
Sunday and defeated their Pee -
Wee team 9-6. The Colts got goals
from Gordon Kinahan four, Mike
Montgomery two, and Jay Mac-
Laurin, Billy Broome and
Murray Gardner, one each. As
usual when Playing in Durham it

trol. The Colts who like to play
Clean, took eight of the 18 \
penalties handed out.
The Colts played in ,Arthur,
Mondny and extended their un-
beaten
string in league games to
25 on the strength of a 124 win
over the Arthur PeeWees. Three
players picked up hat tricks in
the game. They were David Kief-
fer, who was top man with four,
Murray Watson and defenceman
Keith Cameron. Billy Broome
and Mike Montgomery picked up
one each.
Set Dates Soon
The dates should be set later
this week for the Colts to start
their WOAA playoffs against
either Mitchell or Seaforth. Also,
on Saturday, March 10, they will
be playing in Lions Tournament
in Mitchell. The first game is at
10:50 a.m. and the Wingham boys c'.
could use all the support they can
get at that Mitchell tournament.
