Warebouse Opened
In 1932 the film opened a ware-
house in Toronto and commenced
shipping more extensively
through a network of distri
butors. During World War II the
company was kept very busy on
military installations. The great
scope of con:struction is hard to
imagine now until one recalls the
magnitude of the Commonwealth
Air Training Plan alone, withAs
vast network of barrack blocks,
not to mention Army and Navy
housing needs, and of course,
thousands of doors.
There was a period of great ex-
pansion after World War also,
andin the 50's the firm was busily
trucking its -produiet throughout
Ontario, along with new products
brought about by diversification.
It was about that time that
"slab doors", or plywood doors
• stressedever frames were man
fact in the West and soon
• took hold down here and in
Quebec where the availability of
birch resulted in a great popu-
larity of this material for the
•plain modern style door. Then bi-
folding oors, such as had been in
fibleplitne Od
foryesus, y were adapted
todomestic use on cupboards and.
closets' and this became an im-
portant product for the firm.
Pre -hung, prefinished and
complete door units came along
at logical developments in the
fight tcut labor costs in the con-
struction industay.
An important milestone in the
history or the company • was
amaigaination with the Truax
company of Walkerton. During
the next two years in the period of
adjustment, new sophisticated
types of controlswere introduced
which injected efficiencies in
produttion and inventory.
Government's penchant for
using the availability 01 budding
and mortgage money for con-
struction as a control on the
edonomy was very trying for
such firms tied in so tightly to •
constniction.
This firm, as clid others, had
long pipelines out for materialcti(a,
acquisition, as 'materials had to
be,ardered from 12 to 16 months
ahead of production. Radical

Mr. Lloyd traced the recent de-
velopment of good markets in the
Maritimes and remarkably
enough, in Alberta, and new
factory -built homes as part of the
new trend, are becoming good
door accounts.
In conclusion Mr. Lloyd again
expressed bioPleasure at attend-

The fellow above may be man's best friend. But the
Cascade 40 wins the ladies' hearts. The reason?
Cascade 40 has two heating elements. The lower element
provides abundant hot water for normal' use. The upper
element surges into action when demands for hot water are
unusually heavy. So there's always hot water for any size job:
from dachshunds to diapers. Handy appliance. the Cascade 40.
