Here are a few face-off tricks
players should work on,
1. As the puck is.dropped, the
player quickly slaps his stick
against his opponent's stick to
knock it away,- and then sweeps
the puck back to a teammate or
takes it himself. He should aim at
a spot on the shaft about six in-
ches above the blade. •
2. As the puck is dropped, the
player moves the blade of his
stick quickly forward and then
turns the toe towards the side (to
the left if he is left-handed) and
pulls it quickly backward, hook-
ing the puck toward him.
3. The player quickly places the
blade of his stick between his
opponent and the puck to block
the other player's stick. He
should hold his stick with a tight
grip and lean on it to mnke it hard
for his opponent to move. When
his stick has been blocked,
quickly flip the puck back to a
teammate.
ff the opposing player is slap-
ping at his stick, the player
should try lifting his stick quickly
and then go for the puck when
(and if) the opponent misses.
Best results are gained, how-
ever, when you play your oppon-
ent's stick and then go for the
puck: if you can control his stick
movement yeti will then control
the puck.
The face-off expert always
studies the way each referee
drops the puck, as well as the
methods of his opponent.
