Two trophies for
Belthore spiel
The l elmore Curling Club held
its annual bonspiel in the Tees -
water arena last Wednesday due
to poor ice conditions in the Bel -
more arena, with a full entry of 20
rinks.
The nine o'clock draw for the
William. Elliott Trophy was won
by Jack Porter aid his rink from
Teeswater.
The eleven o'clock draw for the
Renwick Trophy was won by the
Ian Grant rink, also of Tees -
water. '
Each player'in these two events
won a piece of cured bacon. All
prizes were meat or meat prod-
ucts, Altogether it was a very
successful event.
Gorrie Tykes
lose one, tie
GORRIE — The Gorrie Tykes
travelled to Monkton Monday
evening of last week to play At-
wood. They were defeated 8-1.
Gorrie's goal was scored by
-Kevin Stewart assisted by' Troy
Pocaluyko.
Wednesday evening Belmore
Tykes played in Gorrie with the
game ending in a 4-4 tie. Gorrie's
goals were scored by Norm Wat-
Son 1, Troy Pocaluyko with 3.

In a last -rock 9-8 victory of Ray
Walker'd rink, "Ace" Bateson led
his rink to final victory in the
mixed draw Friday night . in a
contest that alternately baffled
and delighted a good assembly of
Wingham Curling Club members
who second-guessed the event
from the comfort of the mem-
bers' lounge.
It was a see -saw battle with the
curling rangtng from excellent to
poor as the sore switched back
and forth. Then in the eighth and
final end the count was at 9-7 in
favor of the Bateson rink with
Fordwich wins 10-4
GORRIE— The Fordwich girls'
hockey team outscored the
Gorrie team by 10-4 on Feb 9.
In the first period Carol Powell,
assisted by Laurie Strong, tallied
for Gorrie. In the gecond Marilyn
Grainger. was assisted by Denise
Dettman and in the third frame
Maftn Grainger .was . assisted
by Carol Powell with Heather
Walker's rink lying four in the
circle. "Ace" curled one in there
that chopped it down to a one -
count, taking the win 9-8 in
"Hairbreadth Harry" style.
The curling surface appeared
excellent, but the low tempera-
ture, about 20 degrees, seemed to
have an influence on length that
was hard to judge.

Midgets lose
to Walkerton
Walkerton picked up a 2-1 win
over Wingham Midgets here Sun-
dt* getting away to an early
start in the first period of the
hockey game with two goals to
zero.
Wingham scored their lone goal
45 seconds after the third period
started. Russ Jones scored the
goal with Rick Foxton assisting.
Brian Wall, Wingham goalie
played a very good game and his
netminding held the team to-
gether.
Next game for the locals will be
Sunday Feb. 18 at 7 p.m. when
they entertain the Waterloo Mid-
gets.
