F'ORDWICH -- The Anglican
Church Women of Trinity Church
met at the home of Mrs. Don King
for the February meeting. The
President, Mrs. J. W. Daunt
opened with a hymn followed by
Prayer.
Mrs: E. Ferguson gave the
devotions, "Our Gift of Worship".
The roll call, a favorite recipe
was answered by the inembers.
Mrs. William Sothern read two
interesting letters from Paul
Rice who is in Lesotho, South
Africa, . doing missionary work.
In December they planted one
and one-half acres of potatoes
under irrigation with the people
all helping. They, hope to be able
to grow more vegetables. They
are trying now to build a car-
pentry shop and weaving centre.
On Saturdays they travel eight
miles by ox cart to a river where
they collect stone and break this
for concrete. So far they have
accumulated 12 tons which to
have crushed commercially and
transported would have cost $75.

was attending Waterloo Univer-
sity but gave it up to go to Africa
and do what he could for the
apple there.

ing to be held in Exeter in March
with Miss Dorothy _ Robinson,
missionary from Uganda, as
guest speaker.

WHITECHURCH - The United
Church Women Geld their Febru-
ary meeting on Tuesday of last
week at 2 o'clock at the home of
Mrs. George Thompson.
The convener of Christian' and
Missionary Education, Mrs. Clif=
ford Laidlaw, was in charge of.
the meeting and gave the call to
worship. Mrs. Elsner Sleightholm
led in prayer and scripture was
read by Mrs. Quipp. Mrs. Sleight -
holm, Mrs. Quipp and Mrs. Laid-
law then tookparts in a reading,
"The Useful Bridge
Mrs. Laidlaw read two Bible"
verses, led in prayer and read
from the' study book, "Christian-
ity in India". During her talk, she

the Toronto parade sponsored by

FORDWICH - The ` afternoon
unitof the UCW met in the Sun-
Iday School room on -Thursday
afternoon. The worship service
was taken by Mrs. Bert Wylie and
Mrs. Parker Eurig. The scripture
and prayer were given by Mrs.
.Wylie and the meditation and a
poem by Mrs. Eurig.
, The program was presented by
Mrs. Jack Wilson and Mrs. Cros-
by Sotheran. They presented the
chapter from the study book on
India entitled "The Green
Revolution". Charts, pictures
and maps were used followed,by
a discussion period.
Mrs. Agla, unit president, pre-
sided for the business. The roll
call was answered with a verse
from the Psalms. A thank -you
note was read from Mrs. Wally
Gibson for a plant given her hus-
band.
Delegates from the unit .to. the
Presbyterial at Seaforth are
Mrs. Bruce Agla and Mrs. Jack
Wilson. The World Day of Prayer
will be held in the United Church
on March 2. All ladies from the
neighboring churches are in-
vited.
During the afternoon the ladies
quilted. The lunch hostesses were
Mrs. George Pittendreigh, Mrs.
A. Stinson and Mrs. Verna Gal-
braith.

Bride of Fordwich was the guest
speaker when the Women's Insti-
tute met at the home of Mrs. Wes
Heimpel on Tuesday afternoon' of
last week. Her topic was "The
United Nations" and her talk was
very interesting and informative.
Mrs. Bride was thanked by Mrs.
Les Douglas and presented with a
gift.
Mrs. Ron McMichael, vice
president, was in the chair and
began the meeting with the read-
ing of a poem entitled, "Febru-
ary". Opening exercises were
followed by the minutes of the
last meeting and the reading of
correspondence. Roll call was
answered by 'naming "Today's
most newsworthy item":
A donation was made to the In-
stitiite's Good Cheer fund, also
one to help defray caretaking ex-
penses at the community hall. A
reportrof the district directors'
meeting held in Clifford, was
given by Mrs. MclWichael.
Euchre committees for February
were chosen, following which
Mrs. Douglas conducted a con-
test.
