IX 1972 WINGHAM WOMEN'S INSTITUTE had an excellent turn- out for the annual Christmas dinner at St. Andrew's Pres- byterian Church here Friday evening. At head table are Mrs. Norman Keating, Mrs. W. Taylor, vice president; Mrs. Ethel Holmes, Mrs. Alf Lockridge, Mrs. W. ElSion, president; Mrs. C. Shiell, secretary -treasurer; Mrs. D. S. MacNaugton, Mrs. William McKenzie and Mrs. G. Gpnnett. (Staff Photo) Whitechurch WI holds spe On Monday at noon White- church Women's Institute gathered at St. Andrew's Presby- terian Church, Wingham, for a turkey dinner with all the trim- mings, served by a group of the ladies. Mrs. Russell McGuire, on be - 'half of the WI, thanked the ladies for their delicious dinner and hos- pitality. Following the dinner a meeting was held with the president, Miss Merle Wilson presiding. The Ode was sung and the Collect re- peated in unison. Miss Oughton, accompanied by pianist Miss Merle Wilson, sang: "Mary's Lit- tle Boy Child". Mrs. Johnston Conn introduced the guest speaker, Mrs. Jim Ward of Wingham. Mrs. Ward commenced her talk 'with a story on visiting at Christmas, and to her, Christmas means God com- ing to visit "us,the people". Many tend to stay in their own lit- tle corner instead of being active and visiting others as God would have them do. She concluded with a Christ- mas story proving we should be 'happy and we are lucky to have so many things for. which to be happy. Mrs. George Fisher, on behalf of the WI, thanked Mrs. Ward and presented her with a gift. Miss Oughton sang: "Amid the Winter Snow", , accompanied by Miss Wilson. The carols "Holy Night" and "While Shepherds Watched" were sung with Mrs: Garnet Farrier as pianist. Mrs. George Fisher gave her report of the Grey -Bruce area convention to which she had been the delegate from the branch. Miss Oughton was presented with a gift from the WI. The minutes werel� read by the secretary, Mrs. Russell McQuire. The roll call was answered by bringing an unsigned Christmas card,, Mrs. Russell Ross, Mrs. Lester Falconer and Mrs. Milan Moore ' all sent letters of ap- preciation for cards and letters received. It was decided to omit the fourth course on block print- ing. The meeting next month will be at. Miss Merle Wilson's home. Mrs. Jim Currie and Mrs. John Currie distributed the gifts around the Christmas tree for the "secret sister". More than 30 were in attendance. Christmas music theme of UCW WHITECHURCH — On Tues-` day, Dec. 5, the United Church Women held their meeting at the home ,,of Mrs. Garnet Farrier. Mrs. Millan Moore gave the call to worship. The theme of the meeting was Christmas. The carol "0 Come All Ye Faithful" was sung and Belmore Mr. and Mrs. Walter Renwick and family attended the wedding of Janice Will and Ron Watt in London on Saturday. On Monday of last week !the Howick Lions held 'their Christ- mas party at the 'Belmore Hall. After a turkey supper the guests were entertained by the Good In- tentions of Teeswater. Dancing to the music ., of Moran's Orchestra completed a very enjoyable eve- ning. John Farrell, Belmore's oldest resident, is a patient in Wingham and District Hospital. Louis and. Clare McKee of Kit- chener visited with their brother, David McKee, Mrs. McKee and family on Sunday. "Afloat depicting the television show, Sesame Street, entered in the Santa Claus parade at Gorrie Saturday by the Belmore Farm Service, carried off third prize. Congratulations Pat and Wayne and all your helpers. - Mrs, Gladys Albrefht of Bel - more is a patient at Wingham and District Hospital. Bluevale WI visit Huronview for birthday party BLUEVALE — The Women's Institute members and friends visited Huronview last Wednes- day to celebrate and entertain at the December birthday patty of Huronview residents. Mrs. Mel Craig, president, was chairman for the following pro- gram: stepdancing by Karen and Barbara Johnston, accompanied by their. mother, Mrs. Glen Johnston; guitar and accordion selections by David and De - Wayne Golley; duet by Mrs. Charles Bosman and Mrs. Glen Sellers; The Dancing Dollies, a comedy number by Mrs. Jim Armstrong, Mrs. Wendell Stomper and Mrrs�. William De- Vos, accompanieti by Elizabeth Armstrong; solos by Mrs. Karl de Koeijer and Mrs. Walter Willits., and carol singing led by the,,Ingti- lute members with Mrs. Carl Johnston at the piano. Each of the birthday celebrants. were presented with a gift and lunch was served. A resident of Huronview thanked the ladies on behalf of the staff and residents. memories meeting Mrs.'Lorne Durnin gave the story of Christmas from "Good of Modern Man," followed by the singing of "Joy to the World". Mrs. Dave Gibb; Mrs. Elwood Groskorth, Mrs. Fred Tiffin and' Mrs. Milan Moore took part in the candle -lighting service. Mrs. Clifford Laidlaw and Mrs. Carl Weber read Bible verses explain- ing the. true meaning of Christ- mas. "It Came upon a Midnight Clear" was sung and Mrs. Albert •Coultes led in prayer. Mrs. War- drop and Mrs. De Koeijer sang two duets, "Silent Night" and "Go Tell It on the Mountain'". Mrs. George Thompson gave a reading, "A Gift to My Brother" and Mrs. Milan Moore read "The Undelivered Letter" and story of Amberlie from the December Observer.. She told of iat "Gentle Hallelujah". Mrs. Russel Gaunt led in pray- er and the roll call was answered by 16 adults and one child telling of happy Christmas memories. Mrs. Albert Coultes gave the treasurer's report. The collection was received. Homemade candy for the Christmas concert on Dec. 22 is to be in by Dec. 21 at noon. Mrs. Elmer Sleightholm gave the report of the sale of cards. An? exchange of gifts was held and Mrs. Moore thanked the hostess and closed with the Mizpah bene-, diction. A1'delicious birthday tea .was served. Mail deadlines Postmaster G. The variety concert included selec- tions by the Seaforth Junior Band, led by Dr. Toll; the Hen- derson sisters, Donna, Darlene, and Debbie, vocal trio; the Albert sisters, Linda and Ann sang several duets and provided their own accompaniment with . elec- tric ' guitars; the Rose sisters,] Debbie and Janice, . vocal. duets; E. Wawanosh asks two dates East Wawanosh Township Council has joined with other municipalities 'in Huron request- ing' the Huron County Board of Education to set two dates for the payment of rates, namely June 30 and December 15. The resolution was endorsed on a motion -by Cohncillors Scott and Carter. The 'action was taken at the' regular meeting of council De- cember 5 at the Belgrave Com- munity Centre room with Reeve Roy Pattison presiding and all members present. A bylaw was passed authoriz- ing- the township to enter into agreements with landowners in the township. Pay Claim In other business council authorized payment of a live- stock claim of $125 and the live- tock valuer E. Snell, ,received $7.25 fees. Election expenses in connection with the vote for the Huron -Perth Combined Separate School Board were ordered paid. A reminder was issued that anyone wishing to obtain "an in- stallation permit for a private - sewage system should contact Huron County Health Unit. It was standing room only on Wednesday .afternoon at the De- cernber birthday party: "The party was provided by the Blue - vale Women's Institute who pre- sented the sixteen celebrants with gifts and served birthday cake and tea to about 200. resi- dents and guests following the program. Mrs. Melvin Craig was mistress of ceremonies for the afternoon with, Mrs. Carl Johns- ton, pianist for the group singing, led by members of the Institute. David and Dwight Golley played several numbers' on the electric guitarand accordion. There -were dance numbers by Barbara and Karen Johnston. The Bluevale dancing dolls—Carol Armstrong, Evelyn Stamper and Marie De- Vos-entertained the audience with their comedy dance. There were vocal duets by Eileen Sel- lers and Irene Bosman and vocal solos by Jean .Willits and Mrs. DeKoeijer. Mrs. Burke, a former resident of the Bluevale area, thanked the ladies on behalf of the residents. Slide pictures of special events and birthdays at Huronview were shown on Family Night. Sharon Colclough of Clinton played her guitar and sang some favorite numbers. Miss Gidley accom- panied at the piano° for the sing- ing of Christmas carols. —Mrs. Robert Powell has re- turned to 'her home on Leopold Street following a vacation in Florida. —Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Campbell of London visited' with Mrs. Campbell's mother, Mrs. Gordon Elliott, on the weekend. —Mr. and.Mrs. F.
