and. Mrs. Myrtle Wilderman of
Edmonton, Alta., are visiting , at
the Harper home.
Mr. and Mrs. Warren Zurbrigg
and Mr. and Mrs. Jim In;lis
attended the Royal on Wednes-
day; travelling by bus with the
Gorrie WI. '
Mr. and Mrs. Morley Zurbrigg
of Willowdale visited Sunday with
Mr. and Mrs. Warren Zurbrigg.
Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Giles of
Arkona visited Sunday with Mr.
and Mrs. Sandy Murray and Mr.
and Mrs. Lyle Murray and fam-
ily.
Mr. and Mrs. Walter Demer-
ling and Mr. and Mrs. Carl Stew-
art ,spent the weekend at Niagara
Falls, N.Y. The Demerling chil-
dren spent the weekend with their
grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Har-
vey Wright.
Mr. and Mrs. Jim Inglis visited
Saturday with Miss Elizabeth
Dryden at Guelph.

Today we hear a great deal of
the rising prices of 1f00d-iilfs,
but when one compares the
prices of today with those 4 1919,
it makes one wonder how the
housewives the year after the
war, made ends meet. Prices
taken from an invoice of a Lon-
don wholesale firm, August 1919:
cooked ham 64c per lb.; em-
ber 1919: barrel of spies $9.00;
October: eggs, 65c per dozen.
Councillor J. H. Crawford will
be a candidate for mayor at the
municipal election to be held
later this month. Reeve Fred
Davidson -will again seek re-elec-
tion.
J. W. McKibbon was nazned
chairman of the Hospital Board
with R. H. Lloyd vice chairman
and A. Cosens secretary -treas-
urer.
On Monday afternoon in honor
of Miss Betty Walker, who is to be
married Saturday this week,
Mrs. W. W. Armstrong and Mrs.
George Ross entertained about 35
ladies to tea.
The annual meeting of the
Girls' W.A. of St. Stephen's
Anglican Church, Gorrie, was,
held with election of officers tak-
ing place. Nellie Dinsmore was
named president; Blythe Under-
wood isvice president; Ida
Ritchie is secretary and treas-
urer is Edith Ritchie.
Two Whitechurch residents, Eli
Jacques and Mrs. MacGregor,
have had their homes wired for
hydro during the past week.
A, full hall greeted. the play
"Clover Time" presented by the
YPU of the Bluevale ' United
Church this week. The cast con-.
sisted of Bill Peacock, Mrs. G.
Wray, Carl Johnston, Eunice
Thornton, George Johnston, Alice
Thornton, Smith Robertson and
George Hetherington.

At the regular meeting of
Wingham Town Council, a letter
was received from Ted Whitby
tendering his resignation as night
policeman.
Cold, high winds and snow on
Saturday brought to an end . the
mild weather we have enjoyed
this fall. On Sunday evening the
temperature dropped to a re-
ported 26 degrees.
Carl Seip, accountant at the
local branch of the Dominion
Bank, has been notified that he is
being transferred to Sarnia. His
duties here will be taken over by
George. Beattie of Montreal.
A. R. DuVal took ten of his
mink to Bridgeport for , the
Waterloo Fur Breeders' Mink
Show on the wee td: -Of= those
eight won ribbons, including
three firsts.
Capt.. C. Goodwin of f Uxbridge
has been transferred by the Sal-
vation Army to Wingham.
M. L. `Tory' Gregg was chosen
president of the WOAA for his
fourth term of office. Vice presi-
dents are Glenn Johnston of
Fordwich and Frank Murphy of
Chesley; Jean Tervit of Wingham
is secretary.
Philip Harding of Toronto has
purchased the former Foster
home in Gorrie and has taken
possessiah.
William Jardine has . sold his
farm at Brussels and is having a
sale of farm stock on Tuesday.
Canadian Pacific Railway Din-
ing Car and Service Line staff
from communication lines which
are renewing telegraph lines
from Orangeville to Teeswater,
were stationed at Wroxeter dur-
ing the past week.
Miss Gloria Spotton, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Spottop of
Toronto, who has been a member
of the Ice Capades for the past
three years, will be one -of the
Canadian stars appearing at
Maple Leaf Gardens. She is a
niece of Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Spot -
ton of Wingham.
NOVEMBER 1958
John Hanna, who has repre-
sented the riding of Huron -Bryce
in the Ontario government for the
past 15 years, was again nomi-
nated by the Progressive Conser-
vative party.
Members of the Wingham area
of the Ontario Rural Hydro were
honored at a banquet.on their out-
standing safety record, by mem-
bers of Hydro's senior manage-
ment. The local group has built
the enviable record of 1,000 acci-
dent -free daYs,

pointed accountant at the Toron-
to -Dominion Bank, Wingbaxn..He
comes to Wingham after five and
a half years at the Lindsay
branch.
The Wingham Sawmill Com-
pany Ltd., owned by Harold PO -
cock, has taken over the building
on Josephine Street formerly
known as Crossett Motors, and
has moved its entire stock of re-
tail items to this new location.
The recent marriage of Miss.
Mary Elizabeth Pocock and
Douglas Ralph Smith of Holy -
rood, was solemnized in Wing -
ham Baptist Church. The couple
will reside in Waterloo.
Canada Packers, Harriston,
have completed plans for another
extension to their plant for the in-
stallation of . a spray milk dryer
box.
J. Leander Good of Marnoch
recently sold his hundred -acre
farm to Thomas H. Reid of Mount
Brydges who gets possession in
February. Mr. and Mrs. Good
have purchased two homes in
Wingham, the Fry home and the
hone of the late Mrs. Maude
Dood, both on Shuter Street.
The Wingham District High
School football squad won the
Huron Secondary School Associa-
tion championship when they de-
feated Clinton 21-8. Coach of the
team is Bob Campbell.
Harold Brooks was named club
professional for the Wingham
Figure Skating Club.
Harold Moffatt, Joseph Clark,
William Henderson, W. Hogg,
Jack Tiffin and Ivan Gardner
were elected officers of Wingham
