Notes from Whitechurch

*attended a liquid embroidery
demonstration at the home of
Mrs..John deBoer, Holyrood, on
Monday of last week with Mrs.
Dan McInnes as demonstrator.
Whiturch had its problems
on Monday evening when high
winds caused two hydro poles
with transformers to break and
fall. This cut off hydro to the vil-
lage on the north street. The
pumping system was out as well
and people on Highway 86 had
power but no water until the
hydro crew had new poles in-
stalled and power restored Tues-
day at 6 p.m.
While returning to Whitechurch
Friday the public school bus" re -
fused to wo'k and the pupils
came home on foot.
Mrs. Gordon Rintoul, Mrs. Bill
Rintoul, Mrs. Lorne Durgin and
Mrs. Archie Purdon joined the St.
Helens WI on a bus trip to Owen
Sound last Tuesday.
Mrs. Russel McGuire, Mrs.
Johnston Conn, Mrs. George
Fisher, Miss Merle Wilson and
Mrs. Victor Emerson attended
Bruce County WI rally at Allen -
ford on Thi urs sday representing
Whitechurch branch. Mrs. Fisher
and Mrs. Conn gave a humorous
skit for the Whitechurch WI.
Mr. and'Mrs. Tom Morrison of
Lucknow were in London at.
Westminster Hospital, where
Tom had his usual checkup. They
were accompanied by Mrs. Wal -
lace Conn, who remained to visit
with her father, Earl Caslick,
now out of intensive care and
with her brother-in-law, Russel
Ross at Victoria Hospital.
Little Miss Robin Willis of
Newry spent a few days last week
with her grandmother, Mrs.
Doris Willis.
Attending the UCW regional
`meeting at Brussels from the
UCW here were Mrs. Fred Tiffin,
Mrs. George Thompson, Mrs.
Millan Moore and their brother,
Dr. Donald Watt of British Col-
umbia, Mrs. Dave Gibb, Mrs. El-

conclusion to the unit.

On Friday, October 20, Sacred,
Heart played a soccer game
against Turnberry Central. In the
first period they had scored 6 to 0
over us. By the time the second
period arose there was a
scramble in front of Turnberry's
net and we managed to put the
ball by the opposing goalie. By

Wednesday, October 25, there
will be a second game, on our
home grounds,.
A new member of the teaching
staff, Mrs. McKeon, was inter-
viewed this week She has pre-
viously taught three years in
Hamilton and three in Welland.
In both schools she coached the
.girls' volleyball teams: She now
lives in Lucknow where her hus-
band teaches in the public school.
She enjoys the students at Sacred
Heart and enjoys the scenery.

Joint meeting of
Legion, Auxiliary
FORDWICH - A joint meeting
of the Howick Legion and Ladies'
Auxiliary was held in the Legion
room. Presidents, Alex Graham
and Mrs. Betty Bradshaw pre-
sided.
Plans were made for Remem-
brance Day services to' be held in
Gorrie United Church on Novem-
ber 5 and in Howick Central
School on November 10.
The minutes of the last meeting
were given by Mrs. Sorena Aus-
tin. Committees were. named to
look after the masquerade Hallo-
we'en dance to be held October 27
in the Fordwich Community Hall.
A mystery prize was donated
by Mrs. George Hamilton and
won by Hector Hamilton. Cards
were enjoyed at the close, also a
smorgasbord lunch and an auc-
tion.

played the part of his childhood
friend. Mrs. truce Darling was
the maid and Mrs. Donald Mac -
Adam the minister.

sengers held their October meet-
ing on Sunday in the Sunday
School room. The call to worship
was given by Richard Moore and
"What a Friend We Have in
Jesus" was sung.
Leland Parker read the scrip-
. ture. Prayer was given by Jackie
Whytock. A poem, "October"
was read by Kenneth Quipp. The
offering was received by Cindy
Moore and Donna Thomson gave
the offertory prayer.
Linda Moore called the roll and
read the minutes, The juniors and
seniors then were given their
stories and benediction was pro-
nounced by Colleen Adams.
