The Wingham Advance-Times, 1972-10-05, Page 20Wingham Advance -Times, Thy, October 5, 1972 ty weft wuirnnbu4gets for yeary-o-d- AdMinistrator for Huron Coun- ty, ;OW Berry, told council last Fy. at its September meeting that the majority of budgets are W within the original estimates as of June 30, 1974. "Total revenue to date is $1,- 493.,401.25 with expenditures of $1,443,137.18, or a surplus of $50,- 264.07," said Berry. IThe working capital fund now t sits at $200,000; the employee benefits fund at $60,000 and the hospital reserve fund at $55,600, he added. The Land Division section has handled approximately 1.90 sev- erances so far this year and by the end of the year it is estimated that 300 will have been before the committee. Estimated cost to the end of December, said Berry, should be about. $24,000. "You can see, therefore, that 300 severances would give us revenue of $12,000 against a cost of $24,000," stated Berry, "moan- ing that the direct cost to the County would be approximately $12,000 or $1,000 per month." B. G. Eastwood, Regional Assessment Commissioner noted there are very few changes be- tween 1972 and proposed 1973 ap- portionments, the major changes being in connection with Tucker - smith Township and Stephen Township as it relates to the Canadian Forces Bases. "The Tuckersmith situation will gradually be adjusted and worked into the regular assess- ment figures," said Allan Camp- bell, chairman of the Executive Committee of council. "The Stephen Township picture, how- ever, is different as the taxes are paid based on rents collected working through Ontario Development Corporation." During the day. Spence Cum- mings,., Development Officer for Huron, was asked how things looked at Vanastra, formerly CFB Clinton. Cummings said there were now 160 families lo- cated in the homes there, two in- dustries are already at the Base and there are "a few other in- quiries". Campbell asked Cummings why the county officer, hired by Huron, should be so interested in promoting a private individual's business. He said Van Gastel had purchased the base and he should be responsible for the promotion of his project from that point. Cummings said he does no more for Van Gastel than he would do for any other person from any municipality. He said his main concern was to "get in= dustry into the county" and to see thacit locates in proper. areas. Campbell said that Cummings had been requested to go to Mc- Killop to discuss the township park, but that he's "been, there only once. Cummings said hewas well acquainted with the Mc- Killop situation and had been there six or seven times for talk with McKillop officials. THE BURN -ME -PILOTS BELMORE — All eleven mem- bers answered the.roll call for the fifth meeting held at the home of Judy Dickson. Reeve Harold Robinson, of Howick told Huron county Coun- cil Wardenchair y he will not seek the n 1973 as be had originally intended. ' While Robinson didn't ela- borate upon his decision, he wished the 'best man" success. Announcements for the candi- dates for Warden usually come at the Octobe or November ses- sions.
