Frank Ross dies in 74th year Frahk Ross of Edward Street, Wingham, passed away Thurs- day, August 10, at the Wingham and District Hospital following a brief illness. He was in his 74th year. Mr. Ross was born in Kinloss Townsiaip on June 3, 1899. He was a son of the late Malcolm Ross and Adeline Phillips. He was a member of St. Andrew's 'Presby- terian Church. Surviving are his wife, the former Nettie Casemore; two sons, Gordon of Ethel and Mal- colm at home; two daughters, Mrs. Douglas (Mary) McQueen of Scarborough and Mrs. John (Dorothy) Butler of Toronto. Also left to mourn are four grandchil- dren.; three sisters, Mrs. Sigurd (Addie) Foien of Mississauga; Mrs, Graydon (Kathleen) Cox of London and Mrs. Olive Boss of Wingham; and one brother; Mal- colm Ross of Pembroke. "Bob", as he was known, was born in Toronto on September 20, 1913, a son of the late Earl Groves and his wife, Isabell. Shoaff. He moved to Wingham with his par- ents at an early age and after re- ceiving his education in local schools, learned the printing trade at The Wingham Advance - Times, where he was employgd' until about 20 years ago. Moving with his family to Akron, he was employed by the Firestone Cor- poration, first as a pressman and later in the shipping department. Bob was an outstanding base- ball catcher and during the late 30's played with Wingham and' Hanover teams: When fastball was introduced in Wingham in the 40's he continued to play as ,catcher for several years. He was also a skilfull curler with the local club. He is survived by his wife, the former Olga Scurei of Akron; tWo daughters, Mrs. Frances Hig- gins, North Lawrence, Ohio; Mrs. Jane Blank; of Akron and Wilhelm Dietrich,, Akron; four sisters, Mrs. Jacob (Laura) Wil fong, Listowel; Mrs. Charles (Norma) Westlake, St. Cathar- ines; Mrs. Helen Henderson, London and Mrs. Bill (Betty) Hall, Chatham. He was prede- ceased by a brother, Bill. Armstrong on July 25 for Joseph Dolgos who died at Wingham and District Hospital on July 23 after a short illness. The Service was held at the S. J. Walker Funeral Home, Patrick Street, with interment in Wingham Cemetery. Pallbearers were •.Anco and Pieter Guikema, Neil Wolsey, Bill Ford, Gordon Leggatt and Archie Campbell. Born in Hungary 48 years ago, his parents are Joseph and Ter- esa Dolgos. He was educated in Hungary and attended trade school there where he became a bricklayer. He came to Canada in 1950, locating in Hamilton. He continued his trade in Canada and was an exceptionally fine bricklayer. On December 19, 1953, he mar- ried Johanna Guikema of Kincar- dine in that town. They came to Wingham in 1961. He was a mem- ber of the Roman Catholic Church. Mr. Dolgos is survived by his wife; three children. David. 17, of RR 4. Ripley, Dennis, 16 and Kathy, 14, both at home; his par- ents in Hungary: a brother Jeno of Belleville and one sister. Teresa. in Hungary. Miss Carruthers dies in 103rd year Miss Janet Carruthers, a resi- dent of Brookhaven Nursing Horne for the past 12 years, died at the home on Friday, July 28, 19 days after her 102nd birthday. Her parents. the late Mr. and Mrs. Frank Carruthers came to this area from Scotland& Mrs. Carruthers was the former Isabel Wood. They took up farming in Turnberry Township. RR 1. Wingham, on the farm on which Miss Carruthers was born July 9, 1-870. She spent her entire life on that farm until moving to the nursing home. Miss Carruthers attended SS No. 5 Turnberry and was an ac- tive member of Eadie's Presby- terian Church, and was later a member of St . Andrew's in Wing - ham. Following the death of her par- ents, she and her two brothers re- mained on the farm. Her older brother, Walter, died in 1940.
