The clunker population of Lis-
towel are being hard hit this
week. The Ontario Ministry of
Transportation and Communica-
tions motor vehicle safety lanes
are here. Fifty cars+tere passed
through the check lanes on Tues-
day by 4p.m. and of that number,
44 received orders for repairs to
be done within a geriod of be-
tween 24 hours and 10 days, and
three had their plates removed
because they were in an unroad-
worthy condition.
An insFector with the motor ve-
hide inspection unit said they
aren't visiting as many centres
this year. He said they needed
more money and personnel as the
program costs more each year,
but he added the mechanical fit-
ness certificate that must accom-
pany the sale of every used car
now in the province ' has had • a
positive affect on the number of
dangerous cars on the road. He
estimated since the mechanical
fitness certificate law was passed
80 per cent of the "junkers" have
been removed from the high-
ways.
He cited a personal observation
as evidence of the effectiveness
of the mechanical fitness certifi-
cate law. He said before the new
law out of 50 cars checked
through a safety lane he might
remove the licence plates of 10 of
them. Now, he said the average
number of plates removed out of
50 cars checked is three.
The inspector said their princi-

Miticides for
spider mites
If plants in your garden don't
seem to be doing as well as they
should, it may be spider mite in-
jury,
Spider mites are very small
spiders that feed on. the foliage of
many garden plants. A severe in-
festation can seriously damage
trees, shrubs, evergreens and
herbaceous plants.
The foliage appears dull, sil-
very -green and is speckled. The
leaves sometimes look wilted. If
examination shows spider mite
damage, spray with 18.5 per cent a
Kelthane and two tablespoons
wettable powder per gallon of
water or any good miticide.
Spraying two or three times at
weekly intervals will probably be
necessary for control.
Lack of control can mean the
loss of valuable evergreens in
particular, and certainly a loss of
vigor. ' in many other woody
plants.

-How to stop crawling insects from
crawling in on you this summer.
.Not all the bugs that bug you in the summertime are airborne. Roaches
don't fly. Nor do ants, spiders, waterbugs, fleas, crickets, earwigs or silverfish.
And trying to stop them with a spray insecticide that's meant for killing flying
ihsects is tough. Because those bug killers don't have
the staying power that Crawl-Tox has.
The big difference - in Crawl-Tox is an
ingredient called Diazinon. It keeps 'working
effectively week after week. Spray . base-
boards, drain pipes and steps and you'll
stop most ground attacks before they even
get started.
Unless you have a special ant
problem, of course. If you do, the best
defence is to attack with Tat Ant Traps:
Just place Tat Ant Traps wherever you
see ants -- indoors or out. Ants will take bait from
the traps back to the colony -- and in 3 to 5 days,
the entire colony will be destroyed.
Crawl-Tox and Tat Ant Traps. Between them they
can stop anything that crawls.
Gets to crawling
bugs before they
get to you.
Kills ants where
they live.
Crawl,,Tox and Tat Ant Trap are Registered Trade Marks of CIBA-GEIGY CANADA LTD.
