ers .escape injury
in five area accidents
The Wingham detachment of
the Ontario Provincial Police last
week investigated five collisions
Tin which eight .vehicles were in-
volved but no injuries or major
damage reported.
On Tuesday of last week ve-
hicles driven by Doneld Ireland
of RR 2, Teeswater and John W.
Moore of RR 1, Essex were in-
volved in an accident on Highway
4 just north of the Belmore road
in Culross Township. Damages_
were minor.
A one -vehicle mishap occurred
Thursday when a car driven by
William t. Chambers of RR. 4,
Wingham, left,' Highway 86 just
east of Highway 4, struck several
guide posts, a road sign and a
standard. Damage to the vehicle
was estimated at $600.
The same day in Brussels, a
parked vehicle owned by James
S. McCallum was struck by an
unknown vehicle and sustained
approxffnately $200 damage.
Only minor damages resulted
in a similar mishap In the same
town on Sunday when a parked
vehicle owned by Raymond
Adams of Brussels was struck by
a car driven by David R. Huether
also of Brussels.
A Sarnia man, Daniel A. Bail-
ey, escaped uninjured when his
vehicle spun out of control on a
race track in 'Lyth and struck
some guide posts. Damages to his
vehicle were estimated at $500.

Huronview?
Mr. Van Der Ende of the Clin-
ton Christian Reform Church led
a song service in the auditorium
on Sunday evening.
Marie Flynn of Clinton, along
,with her mother, Mrs. Dale as-
sisted with the music and volun,
teer work on Monday- afternoon
activities.
The residents of Huronview
having birthdays in June were
honored at a party on Wednesday
afternoon, sponsored by the
Dashwood Women's Institute.
The 24 celebrants each received a
gift from the Institute and were
served tea and 'birthday cake
along with 125 residents. Mrs.
Schenk was mistress of cere-
monies for the program, accom-
panied at the piano by Mrs.
Kleinstiver. Several numbers by
the chorus of six ladies and read-
ings by Mrs. Rader rounded an
enjqq able afternoon. Mrs. Fink-
beider thanked the ladies on be-
half of the residents.
Russell and Evelyn Archer of
Clinton showed pictures and gave
a commentary on their recent
trip to Japan at the Family Night
program. Jim Murray and Nor-
man Speir with their violins and
Marie Flynn at the piano provid-
ed several musical numbers with
a step dance by Debbie Flynn.
Higgins reunion well attended
BELGRAVE -•- On Sunday 83
members of the Higgins clan
signed the register at the. Bel -
more community centre. Every-
one was welcomed by the presi-
dent, Ivan Haskins of Gorrie.
Grace was sung :and all enjoyed a
delicious dinner.
During the business part of the
meeting one minute *of silence
was observed in memory of
members who had passed away.
Mrs. Jack Marks .gave the secre-
tary -treasurer's report and read
a message from Mrs. Margaret
Higgins, Blyth, and Miss Lenore

in accidents
A pothole on County Road 16
near Newry spelled trouble for
motorcyclist, Brian Evans, 26,
Kitchener, July 1. Striking 'the
hole he fell from his machine, in-
juring his left Shoulder and arm
and suffering multi -abrasions to
the left side of his body. He was
given treatment at Wingham and
District Hospital and released.
The incident was investigated by
P.C. Lindsay of the Listowel de-
tachment OPP. '
Glenda Johnston, '14 -year-old
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ken
Johnston, of Blyth, received a
lacerated left hand when she
struck *a sharp object while
swimming at. Donnybrook Park
in the river. She. was treated at
the hospital here and released.
An accident while working. at
the home of his parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Herbert Doer, gave Wayne
Doer, 15, of RR 2, Wingham, a
deep laceration to his left knee. A
skill saw he was using slipped: He.
was, treated at Wingham and Dis-
trict Hospital.
David Russell Elliott, aged 21,
Brussels, was admitted to hospi-
tal here June 27 with gunshot
wounds to the chest. His condition
was reported fair early this week.

tion by C. P. Ricker and' Cpl.
Croskill of the Wingham detach-
ment, OPP.

Stratford, conducted the games
for adults and presented Mrs.
Effie Fitch of Corrie for being the
oldest lady present. Larry Hig-
gins, Toronto,• received the honor

recreational facilities.
The 100 -acre property provides

seizing booze
• Wingham police have been kept
busy for the past several days
with a rash of minor crimes and
misdemeanors ranging from
assault to family 'rows, erratic
driving and liquor seizures, a hit-
and-run accident, a lost child and
finally theft of gasoline from a
tank° at Western •Foundry re-
ported Tuesday. A lock had been
broken on the tank and about 25
gallons stolen.

three-year-old son of Mr. and
Mrs. Ron Thompson, wandered
away from home and was re-
ported missing but was dis-

Street, evidently none the worse
for wear.
Charges are pending from a
half a dozen liquor seizures,
made from cars noticed to be ,
erratically driven. A number of
warnings were issued to erratic
drivers.
A car owned' by Mrs. Mary E.
Lloyd was struck June 30th while
parked on John Street, the left
rear fender being damaged to.the
extent of about $100. A suspect
has been apprehended and.
charges are pending.
150 entries
Close .to 8,000 persons lined the
main street of Brussels Saturday
afternoon to watchlhe three mile
long parade that preceded the of-
ficial opening of centennial cele-
brations. The parade took. - an
hour and a quarter to pass a
given point. It contained 150 en-
tries from Brussels, Seaforth,
Kitchener, Hanover, Goderich
and Woodstock.

The Animal Care Caravan is a
non-profit organization dedicated
to t 1e purpose of educating the
pubic on the proper methods of
domestic pet care.
This will be done by holding
discussions and lectures, giving
advice, showing films and slides,
and handing out literature on the
subject of animal care.
The topics covered will include
the most important aspects of
public health, nutrition, breed-
ing, training and general
management of pets, such as
dogs, cats, rodents, birds, fish
and reptiles.
Contact with the public will
take place during the months of
July and August at fairs, com-
munity centres, clubs, youth or-
ganizations, shopping centres,
and day camps in Wellington and
the surrounding counties.

Mark was apparently riding in
the back of a truck driven by
Marvin B. McLean of RR 1,
Wroxeter, when he fell out of the
vehicle. He suffered head in-
juries, concussion, scalp lacera-
tions, abrasions to •his face and
back and injuries to his left arm.'
Hospital officials earlier `this
week described his condition as
fair.
