33arnre—Several of our more prosper-
ous and welleto.do farmers throughput the
township, are busily engaged getting the
material on their premises for the erection
of briok residences in the spring. Mr.
John Lankin of Woodham, has sold. his
farm of fifty acres, to a neighbor; he has
also sold his hotel property to Mr. Blandon.,
-whew nephew will take possession of the
same next May, or sooner. Mr. Lankm
is negotiating for the purchase of Mr
John IVoIntyre's hotel, near St. Marys.—
Mr. D. Paynter's barn on the Base line of

o'clock, as were also two of his horses,
some cattle, the crops of hay, threshed
barley, oats, wheat eto. all to the amount
of about 81,200; insurance 3400, in the
Perth Mutual. It is a noystery how the
fire occurred. No tramps were seen in the
neighborhood, neither were any of the
family at the barn later than
eleven o'olook the previous night. A burn-

thrown into some straw, and 'from which
the fire may have originated.—We believe

years of married life, spent in the township

Neil Moved to their present home in the
tewnship of Bidduiph, where they resided
during the remaining thirty eight years,
During their residence hero they have won
the esteem and love of the community to
a degree which it is rarely the privilege of
any couple to enjoy. They have also the
privilege of seeing their four sons and four
daughters all living and comfortably
settled, and with their fatuilies enjoying
the respect and esteem of the different
communities in which they are settled. A
splendid repast was provided by the host
and hostess, to which ample justice was

with them pleasant remembrances of an
event which it is the privilege of few to

PAssEn Amor.—.11. sad, yet hIppy death*
occurred on Wednesday, in the person of
Almena Brook beloved wife of Wm Brook
and only daughter of George and Rebecca
Heywood. The deceased had been poorly
some six or eight months, when about
two months ago she began to get worse in
consumption, and from that time, rapidly
pined away and died on Jan. 23rd. And
as we feel sorry to part with one so kind
and true, evet we know it was God's will,

to a glorious land where there willbe no
more sorrow, and. pain is not known. Al

21 years, 9 months, and 23 days. Her
remains were interred in the Zion burying
ground, where -ninety-six vehicles followed
that highly respected and much loved
youth to hal grave. Immediately after her
burial her, funeral sermon was preached in
the Zion church by the Rev. J. Penhall, -
who gave a practical discourse to the sor-
rowing family. He said that he had
visited her some three or four times of late
and always found her trasting in the Lord.
He said that he had put pointed questions
nearing the point of death. She always
answered. him in a clear and satisfactory
manner. Even the day befote her death
he asked her questions regarding her
future, and her home above. She readily
and clearly answered him, saying ; The
Lord is mine; m Jesus I trust to cleanse
from all sin. She always answered him
saying, the Lord's will be done ; in Jesus

Quite a number of the farmers around
here attended the Farmer's Coavention
held in Exeter on last Wednesday and
Thursday. They -report a beneficial meet-
ing. If our farmers would all make it a
point to attend these meeting% they would
derive it great anauunt of knowledge in
their line of business. There is nothing
wrong,in having an interchange of thought,
and frequently much good is accomplished.
We believe if the farmers would practice ,
the knowledge they, derive at these gather-
ings, there would be less failures among
that class of people, and fewer dirty farrnie
in the neighborhood.
