in IAPA safety contest

Industrial Accident Safety Pre-
vention Association of Ontario
which will run through until

dies .in Florida
Funeral service was held on
Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the S. J.
Walker Funeral Home in Wing -
ham for Mrs. Frank R: Howson o(
Min j e Street who died Saturday

wing a -brief illness. Rev. Barry
assmore was the officiating
clergy and, interment was, in
Wingham Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Mac, Jim,
Bill, Doug and Bruce Howson and
Bob Crawford. Floral tributes
were carried by Bill Cruikshank
and Doug Hoffman. k.
Mrs. Howson was born in Wing -
ham on May 8, 1891. She was the
former Ruby Olive Kerr, a
daughter of the late John Kerr
and Mary Fyfe. She received
much of her education in Wing -
ham and was a school teacher be-
fore her marriage.
She was married first to John
McCallum who predeceased. her...
In 1951 she married Mr. Howson
who survives, with three step-
sons, Allan McCallum of Toronto,
Fred Howson of Blyth and Ross
Howson of Galt. Also surviving
are 11 grandchildren.
Mrs. Howson was a member of
the Wingham United Church.

inducted at Wroxeter
WROXETER — Kenneth Mc-
Michael and Lewis Taylor were
inducted as elders and Mrs. Ag-
nes Wright, Paul Higgins ' and
Stewart Higgins as stewards dur-
ing the morning service in the
United Church Sunday. Rev. G.
W. Sach inducted the new of-
ficers.
"My Song of Faith" was sung
as a choir anthem, enlarged. on in
prayer by Mr. Sach.
His sermon theme was "When I
am weak, then I am strong.",
Paul, in his earlier days was a
prosecutor until .. he was con- ..
verted on the road to Damascus..
He was not robust 'in health but
when he was spiritually uplifted
his plysical health improved

hold a supper to earn money for
the 'snowmobile fund for the mis-
sionary in northern Labrador
where Mr. and ,Mrs: Saeh visited'
last summer. Donations from any
church would be acceptable to
help reach this goal.

addresses UCW
WROXETER — Members of
the United Church Women held
their February meeting in the
church school room last' Wednes-
day evening with an attendance
of 15.
The theme was "Missions".
The devotional part of the meet
ing was in charge of the Harmony
Unit; with members Mrs. Jack
McLean and Mrs. Ron .Mc-
Michael conducting the worship
service, which was based on the
Book of Acts, and dealt with a
review of the first,, missionaries,
the Apostles.
A letter from missionaries in
charge of a college in Kingston,
Jamaica was read by Mrs. Wear -
ring, and also a letter from a
missionary in Africa; read by
Mrs. M. Allen.
The guest speaker, Rev. G. W.
Sach, pastor of the Gorrie, and
Wroxeter churches, was intro-
duced by Mrs. Lockwood. He
spoke on "World Missions", after
which he showe a film on the
African ields, which was
most interesting.
During the business period,
presided over by the leader, Mrs.
Lillian Gallaher, the dates for the
annual' women's World Day of
Prayer, Friday, March 3, and the
annual church garden party,
Wednesday, May 24, were ' an-
nounced. ,
Members of the Willing Work-
ers' Unit served lunch, and a
social time was enjoyed.

named champions of F. E. Ma-
dill.
The competition consisted of 32
questions and three quizzes per-
taining to safe practice in indus-
trial operations. The five boys
will now represent the school in
the second plateau next week at
Clinton. "
g Should they be"successful, the
°Madill team will win $25 each,
then go into the district competi-
tion at Stratford where they
would be 'in line to each win $50
and proceed into the area finals
wheie the winning team will col-
lect $100 each in prize money.
Technical course teacher E.
Beard is the coach of the F. E.
Madill team and has been active
since the inception of the IAPA
competition in preparing the con-
testants for the series of ques-
tions and the quizzes.

Attending the 75th anniversary
luncheon of the Women's. In-
stitute at the Royal York, Toronto
on Saturday were Mrs. Harold
•:Gaunt and Mrs. Allan Miller.
The next shoot party at St.
Helens hall is Thursday, Febru-
ary 17.
Alfred Patterson returned
home last week following major
surgery at St. Joseph's Hospital,
London. He spent a few weeks
convalescing with relatives
before returning home. -
