W. C. Armstrong
dies after
brief illness
A resident of the Wingham area
for more than50 years; William
Crosby Armstrong of Patrick
Street died in the Wingham and
District Hospital on Thursday,
February, l0, following a brief ill-
ness. He was in tub 90th year.
Born in Howick Township, he
was a son of the late John Arm-
strong and Margaret Sothern. He
received hip elementary educa-
tion at SS No. 9, Howick and in his
early life worked as a blacksmith
1, and a storekeeper. He also was a
salesman for International Stock
Food Co. and Galt Chemical Co.
for 27 years. In 1920 he moved to
this area from London and for
several years he helped. his son
Bert Armstrong in his service
station on Wingham's Josephine
Street. Following his retirement
Father dies in
St. Thomas hosp.
-Robert„ McClean Ahara of
Shedden died Saturday afternoon
in Elgin General Hospital, St.
Thomas, following a brief illness.
Mr.. Ahara suffered a heart at-
tack at his home on Thursday,
February, 10.
Funeral service was conducted
at the L. B. Sifton Funeral Home,
St. Thomas, on Monday afternoon
-by Rev. W. T. Smetheram. Inter-
ment was in the family plot,
Shedden Cemetery. . -
Born in Belfast, Northern Ire-
land, March 29, 1891, he was a son
of tl)e late Matthew Ahara and
Eliza Baillie. His wife, the former
Maria Birch, is also a native of
Northern Ireland.
In 1965. Mr. and Mrs. Ahara
came to Canada, residing after '
their arrival with their son and
daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs.
Robert Aliara of Wingham. They
later purchased a home on Dia-
gonal Road where •they resided
until moving to - Shedden three
years ago. .. -.
While living in Wingham Mr.
Ahara was a member of St.
Andrew's Presbyterian Church
and of Wingham Masonic Lodge
AF & AM, No: 286.
nine years° ago, Mr. Armstrong .
had kept active with gardening
and furniture refinishing. ' r
0 In 1907 Mr. Armstrong was
married to the. former Godetha
Coom-bes- of Molesworth ;.she pre( -b
deceased'him in4955. He was also""
predeceased by his son, G W.
(Bert) Armstrong; three broth-
ers, John, Richmond' and Nelson
and two sisters, Margaret and
Jenny, Mrs. Robert Walker.
Surviving are one daughter,
Mrs. Knowlson (Ruth) Hueston of
Wingham; five grandchildren
and three great-grandchildren.
The late Mr. Armstrong rested
at the R. A. Currie and Son
Funeral Home until Saturday at 2
p.m. when funeral service was
conducted by. Rev. T. Kenneth'
Hawthorn of St. Paul's Anglican
Church of which deceased was a
member. Interment followed in
Gorrie Cemetery. -.

lick, David Bender and Harold
Gilkinson all of Wingham, Allis-
ter Green of Goderich and Bruce
Armstrong. of Fordwich were
pallbearers. Flower bearers
were Lloyd Sayler of London and
Steven Caslick of Wingham.
Surviving besides his wife are a
son, Robert Ahara of Wingham;
one ' daughter, Mrs. Matthew
(Elizabeth) Ahara of Shedden; a
brother -Samuel of New Orleans;
and one sister, Miss Lily Ahara of
Shedden.• . -
There are four grandchildren,
Mrs. Charles Campbell of Sea -
forth, Mrs. David Wenger, Mount
Forest, Edward Ahara of Wing -
ham -and Brian Ahara of Shedden
and five great-grandchildren.
Mr. Ahara was predeceased by
a brother Matthew of Shedden
and a Sister, Mrs. Amelia Baillie
of Northern Ireland. -
