Elect three new
members to board
BLUEVALE -- The annual
meeting of the Presbyterian
Church was held on Feb. 9th with
Rev. R. H. Armstrong, Wingham,
as chairman and Mrs. William
Mundell, secretary. After devo-
tions the 1971 reports were re-
viewed and passed. All organiza-
tions reported a very good year.
New members elected to the
Managing Board for a three-year
term are Joe Walker, Wayne Day
and Mrs. Glenn Galley. All other
church officials were re-elected.
A motion was passed to have a
letter of appreciation written to
Rev. Douglas MacDonald for
Supplying as minister for 25 Sun-
days in 1971,.
Mrs. Keith Moffatt was ten-
dered a vote. of thanks for her
work in preparing the annual re-
ports.
A. D. Smith expressed words of
appreciation to Rev. Armstrong
f::r his- .. oi-1,1 in the : dpe.city ut in-
terim moderator while the eon-
gregation has been without a
regular minister.
After the benediction a social
hour followed.

BELGRAVE -- The afternoon
unit of' the United Church Women
met in the Sunday school room on
Tuesday of last week with an
attendance of' ten. Mrs. Berson
Irwin, in charge of the worship,
chose as theme, "Appreciating
the Gifts of Other Nations". "In
Christ there Is no East or West",
was followed by scripture, read
by Mrs. Irwin who also led in
prayer. The collection was
received.
Mrs. Irwin gave two readings,
"To Look on the Sunny Side" and
"Count Your Gains and Not Your
Losses".
The minutes were read, also
two thank you notes for Christ-
mas cheer boxes. Mrs. Robert
Hibberd read a pamphlet from
the Overseas Relief depot,
"Overseas Depot to Close and
Why".
World Day of Prayer will be
held in the Presbyterian Church
on Friday, March 3. The Easter
meeting will be on March .14. ,
Mrs. Earl Anderson took over
the study period on communica-
tion and presented "Drumbeat to
Dialogue", a friendship filmstrip
in co-operation with the All
African Conference of Churches.
Communication is the universal
art of man. Everyone communis
cates. All present entered into an
excellent discussion.
Another poem by Mrs. Irwin,,
followed by a hymn and benedic-
tion brought the meeting to a
close.

The toast to the Sacred Heart
Council was proposed by Oscar
Kieffer and the official welcome
to, the banquet was given by
President Mrs. Emery Mahe, and.
f, st vice president, Mrs. Ed
Rich, .proposed the toast to the
Queen.
Special guests Mr. Gaunt and
Mr. Miller both expressed -ap-

open Bible were used in the
theme. The service was similar
to the inaugural service. Scrip-
ture was read by Mrs. Cooper.
Mrs. Carswell and Mrs. Eurig
assisted with the prayers. The
theme, "A Vision for the Future"
was dealt with by Mrs. Wilson.
The program was arranged by
Mrs. Warren Zurbrigg and 'Mrs.
Austin Stinson on the theme,
"The Greatest of Love Is Friend-
ship". Mrs. Stinson gave three
readings, "What Is a Friend?",
"The Adopted Grandmother"
and "Treasures Close at Hand".
The unit president, Mrs. Agla,
presided for the business, open-
ing with a quotation, "Me-
mories". .Roll call was answered
with an unusual winter visitor.
Mrs. Agla reported on the re-
gional meeting in Stratford for
which the theme was "The
`h nrld 's Challenge" She e!esed
Challenge"
the meeting with a prayer for
faith and the ladies quilted during
the afternoon.
Lunch was served by Mrs.
George Pittendreigh, Mrs. Eurig
and Mrs.' Patterson.
Weekly euchre
BELGRAVE — Twelve tables
of progressive euchre were
played in the community rooms
last Wednesday evening with
winners as follows:
High lady, Mrs. Jesse Wheeler;
low lady, Mrs. Caswell; novelty
lady, Mrs. Foxton; high man,
Gershom Johnston: low. Albert

FORDWICH — The evening
unit of the United Church Women
met at the home of Mrs. Ken Gra-
ham. The program committee,for
the evening was Mrs. Harold
Doig, Mrs. Jack Reid and Mrs.
Alex Reid.
Mrs. Grant Bartman sang
"The Lord's Prayer" and Mrs.
Livermore sang "Love Shines
In".
Guest speaker was Mrs. Har-
bottle who showed slides on a
missionary's life in Africa. Lunch
was served by Mrs. Ernie D'-
Arcey and Mrs. Graham.

A special anniversary cake was
cut. by three 50 -year members,

Moir and Miss Annie McKinnon.
The fourth member of this select'
group, Mrs. Joe' Wildon, was un-
able to attend.
Recognition was also made of
those who had 25 years or more
membership in the organization
and they were asked to stand. At
a later date Mrs. Mary Ann Bro-
phy, Mrs. )Frank Caskanette,
Mrs., Michael , Cummins, Mrs.
Louis Dalton, Mrs. Eileen Forgie,
Miss Ann Forgie, Mrs. James
Gibbons, Mrs. Eleanor Kelly,
Mrs. Alf Lockridge, Miss Anne
Morrison, Mrs. Chris Newman,
Mrs. Joseph Redmond, Mrs.
George Skinn Sr., Mrs. Alex

A minute of silence was ob-
served in memory of •deceased
members. Immediately following
the dinner, a short period of com-
munity singing was enjoyed with
Mrs. John Day at.the piano.
On Sunday at 11:15 a.m. a Gol-
den Jubilee Thanksgiving Mass
was celebrated at Sacred Heart
Church by Father Mitchell S. Ka
Minski marking the beginning of
the 50th anniversary celebration
of the formation of the Wingham
Council, Oathiic Women's Lea-
gue. League members asseml led
in the parish hallto form a pro-
cession into . the church. Bronze
and yellow flowers adorned the
altar, which were later used on
the banquet table. ,
President, Mrs. Emery Mahe
and first vice president, Mrs. Ed.
Rich, brought the offertory gifts
of bread and wine to the altar on.,
behalf of all league members and
parishioners.. Pass es from the
scriptures were proclaimed by
Miss Mary Hehn, first reading
taken) from the Book of Sirach:
Mrs. Iternard Ortlieb. second
reading from the first letter of
Paul to the Corinthians. . -
In the sermon, Father, Kamin-
ski first of all paid tribute to Sac-
red Heart Coil. He pointed out
objectives of .the League for . all
Catholic women be bond in fol-
lowship to further their religious,
'cultural, intellectual' interests
and to develop socjal action...*
Since the Vatican II came into
effect the change in League
activities were iinplemented that
besides being a -money-raising
organization for different chari-
table activities, now the stress is
made on' the need for dialogue,
panel . discussion groups which
gives the League many worthy
subjects on 'which members could
work.
