The Phantom -( Brad Williams) quickly recovered and returned to the game. -Staff Photo. - Hockey game fails to feature .expected fun // M The Wingham girls' hockey team, strengthened for the oc- casion with ,im.ports from Bel- more and Lucknow, showed sufficient staying power Friday night to tie the CKNX Misfits 6-6. Billed as a fun game as part of the Winter Carnival program, the game failed completely in—that department for two periods as CKNX went all-aut with close checking and hard shots and had a 4 -goal- lead within the first 10 minutes of play. Some of the shots directed at 'goalie Chris Rae were too high and fast, definitely in a different. category to the kind of shots she - has been facing when ploying against other .girls' teams, but she played well and turned aside many shots. ('KNX, augmented by the in- clusion of a few other players, gave the impression their reputa- tion was on the line and it was not until the third period that the game provided some humour i,ind the_('KNX squad made "mis- takes" defensively, resulting in the game developing into a, fun game. Scoring for the girls were Lois McLaughlin, Laura Inglis, with two and Steve Ste. Marie collec- ted the fourth goal while playing for the girls. With time running out and more than the regulation number of players on the ice,- Ed Daer of .CKNX apparently became a little confused and scored against his own' goalkeep- er twice to bring the girls•total to Gerry Chomyn, Ed Daer, Norm Gorrie and Jay MacLaurin scored for CKNX in the first period and pave Bennett and Chomyn added to their team's score in the third period. About 300 spectators were on hand to watch the game and see Karen Sutcliffe crowned Snbw Queen between the second and third periods. ff MICHELLE RINTOUL While not many competed in the costume class for girls 9 to 0, the dress adopted by most showed imagination.
